Default Do you feel it is wrong to proclaim your official religion as 'Jedi' in government census?

Don't know what the Jedi percentage was in the 2006 census, but in 2001 Jedi were the second largest religious group in New Zealand behind Christians (not counting the non-religious). I must confess to stating this as my religion for the past two censuses. 0.7% of the UK is also Jedi.

I was recently told that it was irresponsable to do this. I don't think it is. I consider people who take this line fun-hating :wub:s. Does anyone agree/disagree or have any interesting census-answering habits they wish to speak of?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jedi_census_phenomenon

    NZ:

    Christian: 58.9%
    No religion: 29.6%
    Object to answering: 6.9%
    Jedi: 1.5%
    Buddhism: 1.2%
    Hindu: 1.2%

    UK:

    Christian: 72.0%
    No religion: 14.8%
    Chose not to respond: 7.7%
    Muslim: 3.1%
    Hindu: 1.1%
    Jedi: 0.7%

These figures are from 2001 censuses and are out of date, but still interesting.

I've declared myself a follower of Zeus in a census. If you don't fill it out you get a fine, so I fill it out however the hell I want. You make me, I do it my own way.

Yes, by law you agree to answer truthfully to the best of your knowledge. Or something along those lines. I can't really check right now because they take the censii away from you to analyse like a big human stocktake.

I think it is pointless to be a Jedi, religiously. First of all, this came from a 20th century sci-fi movie, and ridiculous to follow as a faith because that reason. Wouldn't you rather worship a God who actually does allow real miracles to happen? For instance, my mother had Lupus much of her early life, which is a medical problem, and all the doctors she visited said she wouldn't live past the age of 25, this is all true. Later on though, she was no longer affected with Lupus, and every doctor she visited had said she had no trace of Lupus, and that her condition seemed impossible. This is no coincidence.

What has being in the Jedi religion ever done for you? Nothing, its very unrealistic, it's like making a religion that worships a dining room table, thats how ridiculous the "Jedi" religion is.

Moderators: If my post is considered offensive, and you want me to change it, then please inform me. I am only telling the truth about the follies of the Jedi religion.

Exactly, turn your back on the imaginary man-made religions and embrace the divinity of the Immortal God-Emperor

A pity they don't do census where I live, I would screw with it too

LMAO!! Thanks for that oh wise Luscius Julius for showing us the light and telling us how folly the jedi religion is. Your post is offensive to yourself you sound so preponderant that the only reaction that one begs from hearing you argue is "well duh". While at the same time sounding offensive to people with a more openminded belief system than yours.

The concept of the Christian God came from the words of a mad man who was rightly punished.

So you are saying that Jesus was a mad man who was rightly punished?

I think people who put Jedi as their official religion probably believe in it because the Star Wars phenomena is so powerful, there are literally people whose whole life revolves around that stuff. I used to have a friend in my childhood who lived and breathed Star Wars, and used to wish George Lucas was his dad.

Anyone who puts "Jedi" as their religion should be maimed.

Those of you taking this seriously aren't getting what I meant by the post: I was meaning what are people's thoughts on not taking censuses (censii from now on) seriously. It's an annoying four-yearly requirement here. I didn't actually MEAN people really believe they are Jedi...

You would have the one of the five major religions of the English-speaking world punished for their beliefs? How draconian.

    EDIT: sorry for double post.

Yeah, those are the types of people who usually follow this cult. At least Christian beliefs hold more respect and credibility in the world. If anything, the Jedi cult is just a glorified roleplay. No offence, but thats what I, and some others here feel.

Believing in some kind of long haired hippy walking on water is OK though? Hmm, respect.

Presumably those who don't believe are deserving of less than "respect" if the habitual modus operandi of inter-faith relations is anything to go by.

What was it Marx said? "Religion, the opiate of the masses?"
