    Default HRE bizarre garrison decisions...

SS 5.1b, Late campaign, H/VH, around 20 turns or so into the game.

I'm playing as the Danes because, well, I like big axes.

I am in the process of opening a can of hurt all over the HRE and I noticed something odd.

The Germans have decided to make the strategic decision to garrison every city and castle with one unit. Just one, usually a general. Which means that every city I take from them is rioting.

It's gotta be hurting their war effort.

    Anyone else seen this?

Yup, they usually have only 1-2 units of spear militia, armoured sergeants or general inside in my current teutonic campaign. I hate how easy it is to take settlements from them. Hardly any challenge.

Definitely seems like the more settlements they have, the less they are garrisoned...

I think so too, egypt and france are nearly as pathetic as HRE when it comes to garrissoning settlements.

I see tons of egyptian full stacks roaming around but hardly any garrison in their settlements.

A good offense is the best defense?

    I prefer offensive over defensive.

It's probably to keep big factions from becoming invincible against small AI factions who can't field full stacks, this way they got a chance to take territory.

The AI should garrison it's cities better with my AI, for instance in my current High Era campaign LTC 4.1, the HRE and England are fighitng it out and most sieges are between almost full stack HRE army and big defending English army. However, some settlements are lower garrisoned, and even with certain defend decisions there is no way to guarantee a good garrison in a settlement.

Yeah, most of the siege battles I fight now are full stack or nearly full stack, because when the AI sees me marching on a city, it starts to recruit more units and bring in units to garrison from the surrounding areas.

Man the AI in my campaign hardly do that. They don't seem to care. What difficulty you are playing? I'm on vh/vh.

And as such, why would it be very hard then? I have already managed to steamnroll many middle-eastern cities while i had a few regiments acting as decoy fighting their stacks. Their settlements were hell easy to take.
