Well almost all my top 10 groups are British but what are the best American groups ever?

Roth was great in this song



Metallica was great back then. I didn't think they were too bad during the 90's and I liked their release of garage, or technically it was their third(?).

I mostly agree with this list - Love the Doors, the Eagles, Jefferson Airplane. CSN (not Y, he's Canadian!) and CCR are great too. Haven't heard enough of the others to comment - though obviously the Beach Boys are good.

Damn straight. English drummer and bassist, started in England, everything about them was English. Apart from Jimi.

In no order;
Aerosmith, CCR, Guns N' Roses, The Doors, The Beach Boys, Iggy and The Stooges, Boston, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd.

In no paticular order:

The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Ramones, Rancid. The Stooges, Pixies, Hendrix, Pearl Jam and ... erm, that's it

I meant that either you're labelling the Jimi Hendrix Experience as Engilsh, or you deserve to be very ashamed for not listing them.

As it is, I agree with you, they could easily be labelled as English for the purpose of this list.

Good list but you gotta fit Pearl Jam into it somehow....mostly Id argue with order as The Doors->Eagles->Aerosmith as 1,2,3 but that is just personal taste

Lynyrd Skynyrd should also be on the list and Id probably bump the Beach Boys to get them on it but again more of a personal choice. Just no way the band that created Freebird can be left off the list. Its tough because alot of bands deserve a spot, GNR, Nirvana, Hendrix etc.

I think you are forgotting such names as; Elvis Presley, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. It's just impossible to list all good bands from american, or any continent (or country) for that matter (especially pre 80's).

Look Hendrix is the best but i dont consider his band American.

I'm surprised the Allman Bros aren't up there.

I dont care much for southern rock. Of that Skynryd is the best.

Id probably bump the Beach Boys to get them on

I dont think the Beach Boys get the credit they deserve. They even inspired the Beatles. Pet Sounds is an incredible album

Their harmonies are hard to beat . Again you have to remember how far ahead of the times they were back then.

It just shows how good some bands are/were that they are beyond being <insert country's name>'s band Some bands are just bigger then their country and Led Zep was definitely one of those.

Velvet Underground. The Stooges. Talking Heads. The Doors. Television.

& Led Zeppelin are Brummies.

By the way, I guess the debate over whether the Jimi Hendrix Experience was English or American can go either way. But Band of Gypsys was 100% American.

Edit: Led Zeppelin were English, and Steppenwolf Canadian, though I guess that's still America (unless Rush was talking about strictly USA). If not, the Rush should be up there too

On topic, almost all early metal bands (Sabbath, Judas priest) are from Birmingham

Given that 2/3 of The Jimi Hendrix Experience were English, you can't really call them an American band.
