    Default Brittania (Scotland)

I cant find a way to win this, It is around turn 40 and havent really made any progress. England has conquered Wales and the Irish have taken back all of Ireland. the Barons Alliance and England trying to take back Ireland is keeping England out of the way... The Vikings havent conquerd any lands in Brittania, because I have managed to keep them at bay. But It has ruined my economy to trying to defend against them, but I can't push them off, because I dont have enough money to do so...

So if I dont get rid of the vikings soon... I would lose the campaign because I have pretty much concentrated on Defending against them, and not conquering any lands.

Yea. I started a new game, and this was my strategy:

I was going to quickly send some militias to conquer some land in Ireland, to get some extra tax money. Eventually I made enough money to hold Norway, and when William Wallace arrived, I was able to use his army to move around and take there only settlement that was on the Mainland. Then The rest of my force was able to get up and finish them off.

If you are still stuck , let me tell you how I did it pal. Scotland is not blessed with Great Cavalry so you have to try to build a fortress or a citadel to acquire Feudal Knights which is the strongest unit of Cavalry you will get. Also you need to start attacking Norway and curb their expansions early in the game at any costs. Don't stop till they are finished and keep using the cavalry units to destroy their strong infantry and huscarls units rapidly. Then try to forge an Alliance with the Welsh and move downwards to Britain. If the Baron's Alliance gives you a mission take it but don't deliver the city to them. Keep it for yourself. They are not worthy in the end.

Keep building roads, Ports and Markets in all cities to keep the revenue going. Never get too carried away by building just units as it's really easy to get bankrupt playing Scotland in this Campaign. Now as you strike down on England William Wallace should be appearing . Keep him alive at all costs as he is your lead commander in conquering England step by step. Eventually after you conquer England , the Welsh are likely to betray and declare war on you. That shouldn't be hard since you would already have most of the Island and can beat them with Cavalary units especially Feudal ones. Once you get a grab on the Island. Dublin should be your first target in moving on the Irish coast. Take it over and start pouring in units from Scotland and Wales into Ireland till you get it done. Good luck dude

I fired up a new Scottish campaign last night specifically to reply to this thread.

I started by disbanding any scottish rabble and the ship on the east coast. I need the ship on the west coast but made sure to keep it in port else it will be attacked. I built roads and basic fields in most cities. Cities with less than 2000 population I put to minimum tax rate to maximise growth rate. I sent my diplomats south.

Then I look around for what units I can free up from garrison duty. I built some free upkeep units in some cities so I could move offensive units out.

I created one army at Glasgow to head out into the islands to the west starting with Arran. I captured it on turn 2. This army moved across to siege Dunstaffnage on turn 4 which was captured next turn.

Meanwhile my king and a unit of cavalry sieged Inverlochly on turn 2. Some militia came to join the siege on turn 3. I decide to wait out the 3 turns for the city to fall which it did on turn 5.

My main assault originated from my castle in the north. I was able to have Wick under siege on turn 3 with 10 units. I brought up reinforcements on turn 4 and 5. They assaulted Wick on turn 5 with 18 units (odds 2 to 1 in my favour) for a clear victory. This army will continue north aiming for Kirkwall which is currently only defended by 3 units.

My diplomats negotiated trade rights and an alliance with England who paid me 2000 florins for the privilege.

Norway lost it's fight against the rebel outpost of Syke. Therefore, they now only have 2 islands in the north and their castle/capital between Wales and Ireland. The Norwegian king and reinforcements will turn up at some stage but I will be more than ready to defeat them by then.

IMO at turn 5 the game is all but over. Scotland has a solid base of operations in the north with some minor "mopping up" left to do. They can now choose to attack south into England (the safer alternative) or jump across and commence the invasion on Ireland.

    Good Luck!

Rapier117's advice is pretty sound. Plan to capture just one or at the most two provinces ata time. Make as many alliances with as many factions as you can EXCEPT the one Nation you wish to conquer. Make sure you keep the English/Barons Alliance sweet, which ever is the stronger and play each one off against the other, by maintaining diplomats in their provinces ready to offer help against the other. Bit like the Turks did in the Balkans. "The enemy of my enemy is My friend".

An alliance with the English? BLASPHEMY!

    Fight fir Scotland Lad!

    Ok, Pariotic streak over.

I would probably focus on uniting modern day Scotland and the surrounding islands first. On my Scottish campaign (Most recent one). The Baron's Alliance started on Castle Island. The English then went and blockaded it with lots of ships, making travel around that area on boats almost impossible. So I went around the other way, around eastern Scotland, and landed a huge army next to London, took it over and began to build up a chain of cities on the east coast of England.

When you can, get highland nobles. They really helped me on my conquest of England.

    Hope that'll help you.

i started my campaign and by turn 5 or 6 england came to me for alliance.. then i concentrated on norway... by turn 40 norway is completely destroyed... but the barrons alliance has now formed... i was thinking whome to attack next, then i chose the weaker opponent BA. when they had like 1 city they became my vassal.. so now english(my allies) have stopped attacking BA... so every one is now friends (except wales and english). should i now attack wales or england? wales hates me... but i know ultimately i will have to break the english alliance.

    1) You have some rebel provinces available to take, do so.

    2) You can build some quality pikemen from your cities as well as your castles, so don't neglect barracks/armoury lines in the 4 cities closest to Stirling Castle. Pikemen, properly used, are amazing. I use 5-7 in a line, with a castle built offensive heavy infantry behind on each flank (once battle lines meet, these heavies run out on the flanks, turn and charge). Archers/Crossbows in front of pikes, run them back when you have to, and 4-6 horse for flanking/pursuit. Main thing is to get those spearwalls down, with no gaps, and to learn how to use them without them lifting spears and switching to secondary weapons (suicidal if they do), and, how to get the spearwall lowered asap if they should go to 2nd weapon.

    3) The Norwegians are willing to ally with you, but don't trust them for a second. They WILL betray you (first time I played Scots, they did so a turn after I had completed shifting my armies to face the English and declaring war on them). You don't need to avoid other wars until the Norwegians are obliterated, once you break their back you can finish them off with a single army, but don't turn your back on them. This is really your only threat, once you crush a few Norwegian armies and start taking their settlements, you should be on the offense for the rest of the game. Also, their armies are mainly heavy infantry, which can be a decent counter to your pikes. Try to set up on hills in the back of your setup area with archers in front, and be aggressive with your cavalry charging them in the rear once battle lines meet. The Scottish army matches up much better against the English than against the Norwegians. Cavalry charges vs spearwall is like mosquitos on the windshield of a Mack truck.

    4) The Irish are easy pickings at game start, and the English in Ireland are pathetic. I don't think its the best use of your troops, but its definitely a viable option. Take a castle first, so you can build troops locally. Could also go for Dublin first, or soon after. A half stack with a General vs a rebel province in Ireland to get a foothold can eventually conquer the island with locally built reinforcements.

    5) England is a paper tiger. They have a huge number of provinces, and armies, but they're under attack everywhere. Also, they're bankrupt. You can easily snatch a few provinces, beg peace, then betray and grab more. When you start running into stiff resistance, build/buy a boat and outflank. I gaurantee their garrisons in Norfolk/Kent/Cornwall will be minimal.

    6) The Welsh and Barons are your friends, make and maintain alliance with them. At least, until they are stronger than the English. Betray them at your convenience.

    7) You have more castles than you need. Stirling and the castle due north of it can build/repair your archers/cavalry and build some of your infantry (a couple offensive heavy infantry per army, until you get your barracks upgraded to get the top-notch pikes). Your cities will provide the bulk of your pikemen for much of the game. Convert all other castles to cities, excepting only 1 in Ireland, Lancaster, Nottingham and possibly Caernarvon/Castle Town if you get them. The rebel castles you conquer, with few upgrades and tiny populations should ALL become cities. You'll win the game long before you can develop them into something useful.

    8) Make sure every other region, besides those listed above as your main castles, are contributing to your max Merchant agent limit.

Also dont worry about ireland, they wont attack you, get trade rights from them and wales and the barons alliance, than do what you can to destroy norway, they are always tricky though, so I sujest one of many guides located amoungst the forums!
