I saw this bollywood movie once where the father is accused of raping his daughters. But actually its just the mother whos corrupting the daughters & making them 'call girls' and the father is too ashamed and protective to tarnish the image of his daughters. The whole movie is pretty interesting ... its called "Undertrial"

Its not our culture. Thats just stupid & disgusting !!!!

We dont believe in marrying our daughters and fathers. Thats just scary & an isolated event. And Indian villages though maybe backwards in many areas are coming up and i myself was shocked to see cellfones & computers/internet in the village where my family originated from. That village was pretty primitive a few 5 years ago. India my friends is on the rise ...

Yet such incidents always scare me ... and those caste violence ones too. Pathetic

Ofocurse it is ... but remote incidents in villages continue to happen. Its pathetic to be honest. And my parents have had an inter caste marriage. In cities its pretty modern but sometimes in villages its pretty visible. And at that moment i am sometimes ashamed to call myself Indian because my culture which is respected & revered for several substantial contributions to mankind invented something so demeaning and disgusting as to consider one man greater than another because of where & how he was born !!!

As so many millions of Indians are poor, its no wonder such a thing as the caste system still has hold (despite the promotion of inter-caste marriages). Its generally with a "majority middle class" that such castes are grown out of.

Exactly ... in high & low middle castes the caste system seems to weaken. In poor villages though it is pretty common. Its pretty disgusting how the lower caste people are treated. They are not even considered human by some. Its just pretty disgusting how it all is. And the Indian government has given quota for the OBC (Other backward classes) , SC (Scheduled Castes) & ST (Scheduled tribes) which i am not such a fan of but it is helpful in the bringing up of the downtrodden. Though i think an update is needed in the system. The best suggestion would be to not let those SC, OBC & ST members apply for these reservations whose parents are earning pretty well.

Gandhi indeed supported the 'Dalit (thats what lower castes are called) movement' but also showed signs of 'Brahmanical 'superiority'.

Anyways ... its a very complex relationship that one !!!

In the end many lower castes in India converted to Buddhism which was an Indian religion in itself and did not have such caste barriers. Thus i am buddhist as well as my grandfather had converted from Hinduism cuz he too was a lower caste member. And im a proud to be Buddhist. To belong to a religion which does not distinguish man from another on the base of his roots & birth

Why so ... many lower caste hindus converted to Buddhism. Thats called the Neo-Buddhist movement in India or the Buddhist revival movement. The religion does need to be revived in the land of its origin. Its a neccasary step. This conversion happened in big numbers only in Maharashtra & Uttar Pradesh the 2 largest states in India
