unpacker is unpacking diddly squat
newbie here, well i didn;t used to think i was the bad, but it would seem i am!!
i had m2tw for almost a year and have been happily modding for most of that time.
However my computer started running veryyyyyy slowly, and when i checked my m2tw was using about 25Gb of memory, most of which were various mods i had tinkered with and good bored of and saved under in a different folder, plus back ups of the entire original data folder.
The i got Kingdoms, and tried to install but it didn;t work properly because of all my tinkering. i found the orginal data folder and implimented that, saving my current modded regime under yet another title! It's ALIVE i thought, but it worked very very slowly as my medieval folder was eating through my memory!
Still quite happy with a new units to plundge into the original campaign i decided to unpack the files.... so i went to the unpacker and unpacked the files..... and then they dissappeared....ok, not a problem i have an idea! i decided "what the hell, i'll chuck all my mods and cast a new wave of mods in their place once kingdoms and all their funky units would be available!"
I decided that rather then spend hours shuffling through my mod folders, deleting what i didn;t want i decided to just uninstall the entire game and reload it, with kingdoms. Done.
Now i couldn;t remember how to get the files out so i could mod them!!!!
Finally i found a page that should have helped...... use the unpacker to unpack the files? YEPPIE, modding here i come
........ err no.... i use the unpacker...... it said all the stuff that was modded could damage the game, did i wanna continue? Hell yeah
, what a stupid question..... then it said again did i wanna continue because modding was supported blah blah blah... YES DAMN IT! just unpack the files!!!!!
Then it asks again...... unsurprisingly i did want to unpack the files so i said yes again
!!!! then..... nothing.
Nothing at all. the window closed and the computer chugged away as before... hmmmm i thought.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :hmmm: so i though maybe all my deleting had sped the process up to warp ten.... checked data file... nothing but what was there before..... hmmmm.
ok, i read the readme, AHA! put the unpacker into Data!!! of course, so simple...... nothing.... HOMER D'OH!
Ok, so maybe the first unpack somehow interferred with the second unpack... so uninstall => reinstall... Move the unpacker in data first! AHA! u lil bast*rd i got u now i thought
.... Nope, nothing.
OK uninstall, make sure i delete every last remnant of the game.... reinstall, move unpacker in each data file of m2tw, and each of the kingdom campaign..... nope nothing again.
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM check the web again, and everybody says use the unpacker.......
G*D D*MN IT! what the hell am i doing wrong?! i use the unpacker, it asks me 3 times if i want to continue, i say yes mr unpacker man, and then the window closes, and the computer merrily continues.. the game still works, the computer still works, my hair line is disappearing each time i pull it out, but still i can;t mod? what am i doing that is soooooo wrong?! i've even downloaded m2tw update 1.2, as kingdoms comes with 1.3 update and used that unpacker, still nothing!
please please please help help help

Re: unpacker is unpacking diddly squat
The unpacker has to be used in the folder where the installer put it otherwise it doesn't see anything. After you uninstalled and before you reinstalled, did you run a registry cleaner? If you use Vista, it unpacks the files in a totally different location of which right now I don't remember.
