    Default Best shock troops?

In all of medieval? In all of Kingdoms? in all the mods, who are the best shock troops you've used? the guys who run in and smash the hell out of the line.

I'm going to go with Lithuania's Gistelle (spelled?) Chosen? I forget their exact name, but they are basically the counter to the feared rittbruder.

Lol you're dead wrong, It's cavalry. That's all you should really use them for this game. Otherwise you aren't using them to their full effectiveness.

Get yourself some nice heavy cavalry and send them into a line,

Now if you're really talking specifically infantry, anything heavy will have its advantages.

However! I always love the light infantry from Denmark such as the vikings and Huscarls, they can get where they need to very quickly, and have enough attack to be a good shock troop. Shock troops don't really need defense becasue if they're acting as shock troops, they unit they are attackign shoudl already be held up by some spearmen or something.
The pleasure about a dream is that it's a fantasy. If it ever came real then it wasn't a dream.

    Ritterbruder. Period.
"World opinion" is a cacaphony of noise, even at the government level. There is no "world opinion" of over 6 billion people. People pretend it exists to try to reinforce their own biased viewpoints. -Senno

Berdiche Axemen. get spearmen or boyars sons to tie the enemy up, and then send the Axemen when the enemy is just about to waver.

    Janissary Heavy Infantry.

    Period.

With their fast attack, high armor piercing damage, and superb discipline and morale, nothing opens up European plate armor quite like a JHI flanking maneuver .

This is why they're the best all around infantry in the game. The best infantry for specifically the "shock" role I would say are the Egyptian Tabardariyya. Their charge really tears through opposing lines.

No, no, the JHI are terrible linemen and anti-cav linemen. Their low defense makes them very fragile to any missile fire, they crumble from even a lowly Mailed Knight charge, and even frontal attacks dish out major casualties (although they might win in the end).

Their true role is purely shock infantry and flanking roles. Tabardariyya and Varangians are excellent in this regard, but the attack speed and effectiveness of the JHI assault really is the best.

Well "the shock troops" are knights and other heavy cavalry not infantry but if you want the best shock infantry then definitely Janisary heavy Infantry - they hack through enemy infantry really nice ;-)
Forlorn Hope is nice as well but their units are too small

You have to go to your data folder and edit export_descr_unit file find forlorn hope andin the right line change 32 to 48 (to get 120 men) or 60(to get 150 men) whatever you do dont change it to higher than 100.

Do I have this folder even though I haven't used the unpacker?
And how about wanting to change it in just 60...

Unfortunately you will haveto use the unpacker first in order to modify any of your files. Also remember that unit size depends on your setting in the game - I play on huge so any settings from the file will have to be multiplied by 2.5 so for example if Forlorn Hope might have 32 men in a unit (small unit setting) it will have 32x2.5 on huge=80 men.
You cna set it to whatever you like just remember about maximum unit size hardcoded in the game which is 250 (so 100 in the descr_unit file)

    Hope that helps :hmmm:

General's bodyguard? Not a lot of men but they're damn hard to drag down. Plus morale bonus for your troops when the general is close by (I believe, unless they took that out).
