We all know that the fact you can't choose your own heir in Medieval 2 is, at best, annoying, and, at worst, infuriating. Since I would much rather be thinking about Medieval 2 than thinking about analyzing four articles on Byzantine influence on Italian panel painting in the thirteenth century, I struck upon an idea out of the blue and was wondering if it would actually work.
The idea run something like this: Upon the accession of a new Faction Leader, that man receives a Retinue thinger that represents the position of faction heir, much like he currently receives things like Lord Chancellor and Privy Seal that he may dole out to his generals as he sees fit. He would then dole out this "Heir Retinue", in effect publicly proclaiming his heir. When he dies, whichever general has the Heir retinue becomes the new Faction Leader, perhaps based on some scripty-thing that's beyond my meager powers of modding comprehension.
In any case, I thought I'd throw it out there so those more knowledgeable than I in the matter could shoot it down as impractical, impossible, or stupid. In any case, if something like that could be arranged, it would be awfully handy as a way to get around the annoying "game-mandated faction heir" issue we currently have.
Cheers.
