Default the Semantics of european relationships to eachother

lets discuss the semantics of european states and their relationship to one another. anytime someone uses the slang europe/european when refering to a number of european states, many board members have a hissy fit.

should we instead break down every single state were refering to as a whole? would that appease you all.

why stick us togther in the first place?

do i stick you and brazil in the same boat? or you and cuba? of course i dont.

we are different countries, with different laws, difference stances, i mean not all of us are socialists, not all of us have a ban on guns, not all of us supported the iraq war.

we are devided on must issues, it makes no sense to stick us all togther and i find it rather offensive that you(general, not you directly) cant be bothered to get a clue in geography. i may not know the in's and out's of the american way of life and government, but atlest i know enough to know you are not the same as mexico.

it pisses us off because you treat us like we have the smae opinions or governments or laws or cultures when we are vastly different. of course you can say europe when you mean all those countries but its the lumping us together in every respect that is inaccurate.

Because, until recently (and that's debateable btw) they had been killing each other for thousands of years.

It's also why the experiment of the EU will never work out. Many countries on the continent simply don't want to lose their differences to such an abstract concept.

EU works well as 'economy-block' and keeps on growing constantly. Abstract concept as you name it is to belive in creation of 'ONE' europen super state but here are retards who thinks it's possible...let nevermind them.
The power of Europe lies within it variety and diversity not unification into one state. Adolf Hitler was one of the most known Europe 'uniters' - and I don't wish to anyone such 'unity'.

Wow, this man deserves rep (and I can't give it).

Europe is the future - diversified, begrudging co-operation.

It will work so long there is not another war.

Scheuch you sound ignorant when you talk about Europe. That's it. Remain so on purpose if you think that's the wisest way to improve your intellect.

Semantics? European countries are nation states with long independant, yet closely linked histories.

The Union exists to improve interoperation between states, not to usurp their rights to self determination. Perhaps the two are not mutually exclusive, but that merely serves to highlight the difficulty that is often presented when attempting to deal with what has always been Europes greatest strength and its greatest weakness, its closely linked yet independant sovereign states.

Even no longer existing city states of Europe have had as profound effect on the course of Western History as great historical empires or modern day superpowers.

Ultimately Europe is Europe, it has always been and will always remain fundamentally different from everything else. European history encapsulates world history, and European civilisation will remain the yardstick by which all others measure themselves by. We Europeans would never accept anything as simple, mundane and unoriginal as a United States. European politics will always be done the European way.

Agreed, I wouldn't doubt any of that if it weren't for the fact of some elements wanting (and succeeding) in the EU growing beyond it's intended role.

Abstract concept as you name it is to belive in creation of 'ONE' europen super state but here are retards who thinks it's possible...let nevermind them.
Well I can't really, mostly because those "retards" have been getting their way so much.

I personally think the economy will solve the questions . Not that the countries will get closer, but they'll abandon what is against their interest or lay it rest .

As someone who has used Europe as a country before, Ill let you know that what we mean by Europe is Britain-France-Germany. So replace Europe with Britain-France-Germany every time you see it and you'll understand better.

It's your problem not ours but that's nothing new to us cause it'd be very hard to find more ignorant folks than you're dear yanks. It'd be rough on my side but your(most of you) knowledge about Europe is as credible as current 'power&value' of US Dollar

....btw how the hell could you forget to include Russia on your list:hmmm:

Because Russia isn't europe - its Russia, or the soviets. Depending on who you talk to.

Simple fact is, other than Britain-France-Germany, Europe isn't important enough to talk about. (Sorry, but when was the last time Switzerland did something worth generalizing Europe over.)

it'd be very hard to find more ignorant folks than you're dear yanks.
LOL, everyone is equally ignorant about foreign countries. There are SOME people that actually know about things concerning other countries. But the rest of the world is usually limited to what they glimpse on TV or see in movies.

interesting care to explain why do you think that?

please give some examples of what these countries you mentioned did worth generalising Europe over? Why not Italy or Scandinavians for instance?
