The most interesting campaign was when I played the Turks. I almost lost the game, twice.
Early in the game I fought a long war against Byzantine. The Pope called crusade after crusade against Antioch, forcing me to keep a strong forces there.
When my military and economy were on the lowest point, Egypt (my ally) decided to attack me. I could barely defend myself, without any chance to mount an offensive on either front. It was a stalemate situation, in which I couldn't develop my empire, since all of my money went to replenishment of troops lost in countless battles.
When the 3rd crusade against Antioch ended, I took advantage of it, assembled my garrison troops, and pulled some forces from the western front in order to launch a campaign against Egypt. Crushing them was a turning point of the game.
I turned my armies against Byzantines, kicking them out of Asia Minor.
By that time the Timurids invaded. I was lucky enough that the Mongols went to Russia, building a large empire there. But the Timurids headed straight towards Antioch (most wanted city, I guess). I somehow managed to stop them between Antioch and Aleppo.
It was a late stage of the game, and I had little time before the time limit expires. So I created 3 army groups and sent them to invade North Africa, Italy, and Central Europe. I managed to achieve my campaign objectives a few turn before the time runs out.
This is my empire on turn 226, when I stopped playing because the Kingdoms came

I have just started playing with the MediMod mod, along with BBB 2.1.2 and Byg''s Grim Reality 2.1.24 mod. And I have to say, this has the best campaign AI and the best diplomacy along with Byg's and BBB traits and supply lines, etc. The movement of diplomats is making intreaging watching and playing! I am really not sure what deals are being cooked, but when you are at war with the French and you see a French diplomat go talking to the Scottish, that have big armies but are allied to me (England), you have to wonder! The movement of Princesses and Priests is very tantalizing to watch too! The AI in the battles is very good, but I think the vanilla AI is being used, so may try the Xeryx or UAI 1.6 AI mods. But in any event, I can highly recommend the above combination if you like the strategy and intrigue side of MTW2 alongside the battle part!
Thats the first time I've seen England beat Scotland.
Here is my English campaign. After winning the first time around I just screwed around trying different things for like 100 turns. I eventually decided to conquer everything, to see how long it would take. All my armies were scattered around, so massing them into a full force took quite awhile.
The Timurids were the hardest, as they were the last to be destroyed and had the longest time to develop. They had to whole east of the map, from Russia all the way south to Cairo. Of course in the middle of fighting this intense battle, The Moors, who I was allied with for like 200 turns, decided to attack my cities in Italy.
It took forever to get an army ready, and sail them to the Americas too.
The year at that time was 1998. I never once got offered the Knights Templar or the Master Merchant guild/Explorers, I never got that trade lane to India.
Trade lane to India?
