Music Problem Solved

My setup

I'm running RTW + BI + 1.6 with RTRPE 1.9 Mod Switch version. I am NOT using one of the music packs.

The problem

When I load the game using the installer created RTR shortcut on the desktop there was no music playing in the game. All the other sounds were working fine. Music would play properly if I started rolling the credits screen. But there was no menu music, campain map music, or battle music.

Renaming events.dat did nothing to fix this.

My resolution

To enable the vanilla music I had to rename the descr_sounds_music.txt file in the RTRPE folder. I'm assuming this makes the game use the RTR vanilla version of the music text file since it no longer sees a replacement.

Comments and Questions

After looking through the RTRPE version of descr_sounds_music.txt it seems a lot of the music files it is looking for match the list of files for Marcus's Music Remix mod. Does the modswitch version assume you also have the music remix?

For example this is from the file:

Where the tension files are listed as the new file names for the music in Marcus's mod. Anyway hopefully someone finds this interesting and it wasn't already discussed somewhere else on the forum. Now to try and make the music remix work.

I may have been premature in my assumption that the install assumes it already has the music remix mod installed. Does it instead assume that you are using the RTR6.2 music addon? The file names it's looking for definately do not match the original game music. But they aren't exactly the same as the remix mod either.
