Default Fed up /w trying to play TLR

I've been trying to play this for almost a month and just keep running into errors. I finally caved in and bought a legal copy of MTW2 and a new cd-rom for my laptop so that I could actually install a physical copy of the game.
Note: MTW2 does work with no problems, but anytime I try to install TLR and then 1.2 patch and then click the shortcut in the start menu I crash to the desktop everytime.

    My laptop specs are:
    Pentium M 760 2.0g 2mb 533 fsb
    pdp 512 MB DDR2 PC4200 SO-DIMM CL4 Memory
    Nvidia GO 6800 256 MB MXM3 VC

I have it on the widescreen setting, I don't know if that effects anything. (should be fine since I have a 17in laptop screen) and when I installed TLR the setting was for realistic blood.

Any tips would be appreciated, Thank you

P.S. I played this on a way slower PC with a 9600xt video card from like 5 years ago before the 2.0 version of TLR and it worked, but was kind of slow so I don't see why my laptop couldn't run it if I could just find the problem.

Uninstall and delete anything that is left behind. Then Install from scratch. Give that a try, and get back to us.

I agree. When you install over previous files, things often get bugged - especially in M2TW, it seems.

Do a complete uninstall. Then completely delete any leftover folders. Then search for any files spread about.

Then do a new install and patch with the 1.2 update.

At this point, after patching, I always make a complete copy of the patched vanilla (unmodded) M2TW and rename the folder something like "Medieval II Backup" in the same Sega (or whatever main folder it is in). Always leaving the Medieval II Backup unmodified with that name, means it'll still be there after any uninstall.

That way, if anything messes up the vanilla files in Medieval II Total War, like a badly done mod, I always have a complete copy of the original patched files and can just copy them and rename the new copy back to Medieval II Total War and start over fresh without having to reinstall from the disks and reinstall the patch.

Saves time and headaches. And playing with mods means you'll eventually need to recover from a screw up.

I deleted everything to do with MTW2 and TLR. It wouldn't let me delete the Sega Folder though, it said in use. I turned the read only off on the file, but it still wouldn't delete. I don't think it was a problem unless it had a hidden file or something in it. Anyway the same thing happened where the game crashes to desktop when I start up TLR. I selected the options for Weather effects and extreme blood and longer scenes. I don't think it would matter if I went back and unselected those options but I guess I can uninstall TLR and redo it like that. Other then that I am totally stumped in what to do next. Any help would be appreciated.

Shouldn't you install 1.2 before TLR?

Yes. Good catch. Do a clean install of M2TW, then patch to 1.2 and then install TLR 2.0 (and then Condo's updated files and Acegogo's updated graphics).

    I didn't do a clean uninstall yet of MTW2, however I did uninstall TLR 1.2 and 2.0 and installed them 1.2 > 2.0

I decided to look in the game log and found this

I don't know if this has any bearing on it. I guess in the meantime I will do another total reinstall and see if that works then I'll check back for answers here.

You shouldn't need to install TLR 1.2 since it is entirely replaced by TLR 2.0.

    Just install TLR 2.0

    Sequence should be:

    Install M2TW
    Install patch 1.2 for M2TW
    Install TLR 2.0

A clean install of from the beginning often fixes many problems.

I was installing the 1.2 patch the entire time, not the actual version.

No one has had a similar error happen and have that show up in the log?

Try redownloading TLR 2.0, it seems like a file got corrupted somehow...
I hadn´t had the same problem, and I haven´t heard of anyone else having the same problem either.

I did it and the exact same thing happened. I just PM'd tornight to see if he could give any insight.

When you do an uninstall, clean out your registry as well. That was my problem. If there is any hint of the "older" versions, something could intrinsically muck up new installations.

Ok thats done, thanks for the tip. I have no way to find out if it works now because 1st link for 1.2 add-on doesn't work and now the 2nd link is down. :/

I just checked it out and you are right, they seem to be down.

I am at work at the moment so I can´t do anything about it, but I´ll try and fix it this afternoon!!!!

If I approached my job like this I would be not having a job. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Even if you don't have a reason, find someway, someone to love. Love them well. I am tired of losing people. Death sucks!

After you uninstalled TLR and M2TW, did you run aregistry cleaner to get rid of the extras? Anything left a previous install always fouls up the reinstall. I have loaded and reloaded RTW and M2TW to learn this one the hard way. Another problem that has not been brought up is getting the map.rwm deleted. It will ctd almost anything it can't match.

    The complete list:
    uninstall TLR
    uninstall M2TW
    use a registry cleaner
    reinstall M2TW
    reinstall M2TW 1.2 patch
    install TLR 2.0

I know this order works because I did it and I have 50 turns into a campaign.
