What do you think about Amy Winehouse her music?

I just got my hands on the Back to black album by Amy Winehouse and I must say, what a gem. Rarely do I listen to an album and enjoy all the songs on it. Her voice, the music, I just can't get enough. All I really knew about Amy Winehouse before I listened to the album were the stories about her drug/alcohol abuse and her ditching her performances. I had only heard the Rehab song and although I enjoyed that song I didn't expect much from the rest of the album. Well, I was proven wrong. So I downloaden the Frank album and loved that one too. She just has the most remarkable voice and combined with that music it's irresistible. Imho she is the genuine article, a true artist, one we do not very often encounter in todays music scene. I'm not a real music lover or connaisseur but I do know good music when I hear it...and this is good stuff. If you haven't heard her music, do. If you have already heard her music, what is your opinion? I would like to know what other people think about her and her music.

I personally do not necesserily like all her songs, but this girl has some specific twist to her than nobody else does. and this one was just plain awesome!

Oh, btw this is where she got the tune for Rehab from, I think - a much younger Morgan Freeman(!) singing it as the Easy Reader song, in a kids show...

I don't like her... she absolutely overrated.

Her voice is annoying as hell. She tries to hard to modify it to make that sound. I feel like I'm listening to someone on a talent show trying to make voice impressions.

I can't listen to her for more than 30 seconds.

Death can't come soon enough.

Does she write the songs herself? If not then I don't think voice alone should get her such fame.

Well, I do not know what she sounds like on a prerecorded album but some clips I've seen of her live performances are plain ridiculous if not embarassing. She mumbles incoherently into the mic singing supposedly in english, shuffles back and forth and generally looks like hell.

I can't say I've ever listened to her, though obviously I haven't managed to hide from "Rehab".

What I can say is that I was overjoyed when she no-showed the North Sea Jazz Festival, as we were treated to a second performance by Marcus Miller & Friends. The irony of them playing "Rehab" after he'd pretty much admitted she was probably passed out somewhere wasn't lost on any of us, I'm sure.

Oh, and I saw her once on TotP, and she sucked. I can see now why they tend to playback performances there..

You are a negative lot aren't you. I checked out some other youtube vids and I admit that some of her live performances are not top notch. On the other hand her live performance at Lettermans was tiptop. It is indeed a shame she get's wasted far too often before her performances. It's such a waste of talent. BTW, I think her appearance on Never mind the buzzcocks was hilarious(I'll post link later).

Courtney Love is a skank. Winehouse - very tough call. but she walks on the edge of it... same as Britney (except that Britney has no talent, juse like Courtney).

Hmm...Amy Winehouse looks like a wreck though, thanks to drugs I suppose. Britney is just retarded.

I love the way she's so great people think its cool to diss her. Namely Duke. Anyway, one of the best female voices of our times, bar Alicia Keys. She's totally changed soul music, and really brought it into 21st century Britain.

Anyway, I hate that fact people diss her now. She's the new Pete Doherty, he's still on as much dope as ever but the fact that he's stablised a bit means his face is ripped from the cover of Middle-aged-menopause weekly and Amy's face is plastered on it.

Well, for me it isn't so much about her greatness or what's cool but simply what I've seen of her. It's not like people make up her drug abuse and catastrophic behaviour just to diss her. Only this week I've seen a clip of her apparently doing coke live on stage. That's really cool.

You think Britney isn't a druggie?

It's not her main issue. She seems to be taking a variety of pills but little Ms. Tubby doesn't look like she's doing any hard stuff. She's just stupid.

Personally Im gonna celebrate when Winehouse, Spears, Lohan and all the swanky female performers end up dead in a puddle of their own vomit. The out of control female famous thing is getting dull especially when one factors in they have no apparent talent. Atleast when Hendrix, Morrison etc all bit it they did so having produced some amazing music. All we've gotten from the above are crappy movies, alot of staggering around on stage and some horrible music. I have zero tolerance for people who basically have the world laying at their feet and completely unable to exert even the smallest level of self control.
