online advice

[general nuisance]

I'm not asking for your secrets guys
but what factions are best for 10,000 & 15,000 denari games online
and a few pointers about army composition would be great
I am new online so either I hammer complete noobs as the romans or get totally hammered by every-one else

Well with 10k-15k, horse archer faction is good at that money level as it best to rain as much fire power down on someone in low money games, personnally I hate but I rarely see other people expect the guys on TWC use alot of archers.

Also don't go for exp go for armour and weapon upgrades as it will make your men more effect in combat, you want as many of your men to survive a charge and dish out as much damage as quickly as possible, the chevron drags out fights for too long.

I wouldn't recommend greece at that money limit unless you don't care too much about spartens as they are too expensive. Yes they are good but haveing an entire army compossed of them will elave lines too small and they can all be tied up then flanked.

Other armies I find good at 10k-15k are Macedon, selecuid empire, romans, egypt, pontus, parthia, armenia and brittiana. They all have have decent archers but selecuid empire. The chariots from the brits, egypt and pontus make them deadly aswell.

This is scrapped together, I haven't play in MP for a few months now so I can't rememeber everything, but i'm sure others will be along to help you.

I've never played online before but one tip that I always see mentioned in these kind of threads is, Dont get generals, the're costly and cant do much.

Well, I play 10,000 denarii exclusively, so what I says pertains solely to that level...

The absolute best factions at 10,000 are:
1) Egypt
2) Pontus
3) any Roman faction

I refer to Egypt and Pontus as "Turbo Newbie" factions because they enable newcomers to slaughter even experienced players.

Rome is the best faction when it comes to having a balanced strength of heavy cav and heavy inf. So Rome will win the conventional battle with sheer quality. But against Egypt and Pontus, the Roman commander will have to be skillful. So I always look forward to watching replays of my online comrades playing as Rome vs chariot-factions. Do you hear that, online comrades?

As Egypt or Pontus, be sure to bring several units of Chariot Archers (around 2-4 units depending on which faction you're facing).

The absolute worst factions at 10,000 denarii are:
1) Gaul
2) Spain

Being a sucky faction doesn't mean you'll always lose, but you're gonna have a very difficult time playing even against the intermediate factions like Germania, Greece, Macedon, etc.

My Personal Favorite Faction:
My personal favorites are the Macedonians. They're not over-powered like Egypt/Pontus/Rome, but at least they don't suck like Gaul/Spain. Most importantly, I have a huge historical interest in Macedon (from Philip II to Perseus). I love them all (especially Alexander the Great).

best advice i can offer you is speak when you enter games and always be polite... and also steal peoples armies by using the load presave thingy... this will help you get good armies quickly.

or try hosting a few games at 15k with this:

5 urbs 3/3
4 praet cav 3/3
5 archers 3/0
1 town watch...(meatwall)

and just play anyone who comes and you'll get used to moving the men about and learn to master that faction and tactics...

also pm people on this forum who plays mp they are always up for a few games, and join a TWC tourney

Online start playng on CWB ( clan war belt ) rules.

-max 2 horse archers
-max 6 same unit
-max 8 archers
-max 8 cavalry
-no artillery
-no elephants
-max 2 berserksers

Best faction is Egypt.

My favoured army is:

-6 chariots 0/0

-2 chariot archers 3/1

-4 pharaoh's bowman 3/0

-4 bowmans 3/3

-4 pharaohs pikemen 3/3

This army is best one I had and I havent lost battle with it long time ago.

You can also start by playng Rome and tryng TubbZie's tactic as its very good.

Against Rome WAY best faction is Pontus. Against Rome with Pontus you shuld use this:

-6 scythed chariots 0/0

-2 cahriot archers 3/0

-6 eastern archers 3/3

-5 bronze shield pikemen 2/3

This is very good army best used against Rome. While your pikes fight in meele you need to get scyhted cahriots back and charge . It will cause mass rout.

And remember ALWAYS use Cantabrian circle with chariot/horse archers. First go with them on flanks and kill enemy archers then advance with main army.

And also to mention , best counter to Egypt is Carhage/Greece.

hehe brits are best vs rome, i can't remember losing a serious 1 v 1 with brits vs rome where i haven't done something completely stupid, like acedently withdraw troops or go get the door etc... and best counter to egypt has gotta be pontus. on cwb rules anyhow.

also 15k cwb is an odd as cwb is supposed to be 12.5k

Pontus? I think greeks / carthgae / macedon are better and everyone uses them. Pontus is too risky cause of scytheds charz.



Yeh CWB is supossed to be 12.5k / normal but everyone plays it on 15k .
