    Default Character Ages?

    I realized when I started the grand campaign that the generals and family members age as if the game were Rome: Total War; how can I fix this?

    I heard it was patch v1.2, but after downloading both this AND 1.3, the characters still age wrong.

    The default settings iirc are characters age 6 months per turn but each adds 2 years to the campaign.

    So yes there is a difference between character ageing and time per turn.

    It can be modified but as far as I'm aware you alter the time per turn down from 2 years to 6 months, to match the character ageing.

    I'll have to have a look and find the info, if you need to mod before I reply then have a look over on the modding section or use the search. This is quite a common question so there is bound to be information on it.

    I'll be back later on

    Okay here we go

    Question #7: How do I make each turn last six months instead of two years, and how do I display the year on the campaign map?

    Answer: It is very easy to mod the years thing right now, I've changed it so time passes the same way as RTW. Each turn is 6 months, and generals age 6 months anyway. So I'm also getting a good 900 turns to my grand campaign!

    Anyway, here's what you do. Go to My Computer and open whichever drive you installed M2TW onto. Then go through these files:

    Program Files/SEGA/Medieval II Total War/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.

    This file is the one you need to mod. Open it. You'll notice a section that says;

    start_date 1080 summer
    end_date 1530 winter
    timescale 2.00

    Change timescale to 0.50 for turns to last 6 months. You might also want to display years on the campaign map now, rather than the turn counter. In that case, look for the line that says;

    show_date_as_turns

    Simply put a ; in front of it so it reads;

    ;show_date_as_turns

    Hey presto, years! Now, save the file. It will tell you it's a read only, rename it descr_strat 1 for now. You'll now have both the original and modded versions visible in the folder. Change the name of the original file to descr_strat Original, then, rename your modded file to just descr_strat. The game will now use your modded file instead of the original one. It's worth noting that editing the descr_strat.txt will only work in new campaigns, not saved ones.

    I think it might have been Delenda Est Carthago who first discovered that. Whoever it was, thanks to them! My game is already so much more involving!

    (addendum, courtesty of Rysq)

    For Kingdoms Expansion,

    find the decr_strat files in the mods folder in the root directory of wherever you have installed the game

    Example:
    Crusades:
    C:\Games\M2TW\mods\crusades\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.
    Teutonic:
    C:\Games\M2TW\mods\teutonic\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.
    Britania
    C:\Games\M2TW\mods\british_isles\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.
    Americas:
    C:\Games\M2TW\mods\americas\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.

    Same procedures and restrictions apply to Kingdoms' modification.

    Hope this was useful for you

    That's odd, on the script the dates for events is measured in years, not turns, so whatever the turn system is irrelevant, so long as the dates match.

    is there any way to speed up the aging, rather than slowing the passage of time?

    Not as far as I'm aware, you can only reduce the "Time per Turn" to match the character ageing.

    Try asking in the mods section someone over there may be able to advise better.
