    Default World War 1 Movies

Didn't see any topics about this, but does anybody know of any RECENT ww1 movies that are any good...
    Ones I've seen:
The Lost Battalion (probably my favorite)
Flyboys (yeah it is not good i know)
The 70's version of All Quiet on the Western Front
    Gallipoli

Ones I have heard are good:
    A very long engagement
    Joyeux Noel
Hitler: Rise to Evil has some ww1 clips in it, as well as Legends of the Fall.

But are there any other ww1 films or films that have ww1 in it that aren't mentioned here?
I found a video of WW1 movie clips of different movies
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vKvLxjzGLVY
If you know any of those movies, and I haven't posted their title yet, please tell cause I wanna get them
P.S.- Especially the clips at 1:43, 3:37, 3:56, and at 5:33, I would really like to know what movies those are.

A Very Long Engagement came out not too long ago. It inter-cuts events that happens on a WWI battlefield with a woman looking for her fiance who was reported missing in action. The battle sewuences are pretty good. And its Jeunet, so you know the imagery is going to be fantastic.

Clara Bow clip from Wings (1927)

    1938 Dawn Patrol

    The Fighting 69th

    Sgt York 1941
    A truly unreal story.

    Lafayette Escadrille 1958

    Gallipoli 1981

    The Lighthorsemen 1987

Palestine, 1917. The British advance has been stopped by the Turkish line running from Gaza to Beersheba. The latest attack on Gaza has failed. The attacking forces included a regiment of Australian mounted infantry, the Light Horse... Lighthorseman Frank is wounded in a skirmish with Bedouin. He is replaced by a young soldier, Dave, who proves to be a crack shot, but reluctant to fire at the enemy. Dave proves himself during a German biplane attack. Recuperating in hospital, he meets a sympathetic nurse, Anne... The regiment is called upon for a bold flanking attack on Beersheba. But how do you convince the Turks the main attack will come at Gaza? And how do you attack across a desert without water?

Avoid Flyboys. It's like a WWI version of that horrid Pearl Harbor movie.

All Quiet on the Western Front. There's a reasonably good remake, or the original. One of the best war films ever Q.E.D.

    - All is Quiet on the Western Front (the colored and the B&W white version)
    - Fly Boys (sorry, the aerial scenes are super sweet)
    - Blue Max
    - Grand Illusion
    - Gallipoli
    - Lawrence of Arabia
    - Legend of the Fall (set during the war)
    - Zeppelin

Black Adder had a season dedicated to the Great War. Probably my favorite Black Adder season

    A few not yet mentioned...

Oh What a Lovely War Richard Attenborough film with Len Deighton screenplay(!) based on the musical play by Charles Chilton.

A Farewell to Arms Ernest Hemmingway set on the Italian front.

The Thirty Nine Steps I prefer this version (Robert Powell as Hannay) because it retains Buchan's story.

The Battleship Potemkin - so you want to be a film-maker, then study this.

The Riddle of the Sands - I seem to remember Jenny Agutter (yum), Simon MacCorkindale, Michael York and agents of the Kaiser.

If you like documentaries as well then I would recommend The Great War, the 1964 BBC2 series - packed full of eye witness accounts.

Paths of Glory (1957) is pretty recent... At least in comparison to Battleship Potemkin (1925).
