How on Earth do i get this to work?

I want to make a return to M2TW:K, but after trying twice to install this, I'm pulling my hair out! I freshly reinstalled today both M2TW and Kingdoms in hopes of succeding my second time around, but it still fails!
The first screen comes up fine, but once the movies start they're all black. I escape out of them and the loading bar comes up, but the screen starts flickering black and when i get to the main menu, I might see a glance of a crusader over the M2TW logo and then it goes to black, and while the music plays, it begins to get staticy and I have to end process to get out. I installed M2TW, went to patch 1.3, installed Kingdoms, and then installed 5.0 SS and then 5.1b SS. What on earth am I doing wrong?

I think you only need 5.1b don't you? From a fresh install?

no you need 5.0 as well... 5.1b is a patch. a huge patch

Uninstall Vista?
Update Video Drivers?

Well, I don't see why I'd need to do either seeing as how M2TW Kingdoms works fine by itself.

Yeah mate, as mentioned in the thread are you using Vista? I had major problems updating the patch because I use Vista Ulitmate. If you do, you need to delete your Stainless Steel catalog at this location C:/[USERNAME]/appdata/Local/VirtualStore/Program Files/Sega/Medieval II Total War/mods
