A console game idea(Total War)

I know that the current form of total war would be hard and restricted to play on an console eg Xbox 360, also I know that some people would like a more up close and personnal experience of the total war franchise and would like to be right in the action, so I started thinking and came up with a game where you would be a soldier and I know this idea has been floating around for awhile but I for one would enjoy this kind of game.
You could choose what country you come from so you could take part in their military expeditions. Also you could master certain weapons and armour, also thinking along the lines that back then not everything what given to soldiers and they hadto buy better armour etc. Then when your country has taken a city/castle you could pilage the houses and choose wether to spare the poor citizens or massacre them. Also I would like it so that you could put colours and emblems on armour and weapons.
There should be a chance of one day becoming higher ranks such as generals and captains. Once you become a general you be able to have a 'reputation' figure which would be based around the same kind of things the family members got on the current games such as dread, piety and loyalty.

Well what i'm trying to say is that I would love to see CA make a console game which pretty much Total Freedom. I mean having this game on the Xbox 360 could give limitless aspects such as downloadble factions etc. so CA could add to the game as they research more.

The Damsels!!!! I forgot about the Damsels!!!!. Damsels in distress would be great they could have negative concequences if you rescue a princess from her father such as him sending the guard after you. And roaming the endless country side would be breath taking with the alter in the seasons forcing you and your men making camp and try to defend yourself from the wilderness/rebels.
Also people could become a blood thristy crusader or a defender of the Muslim faith.

Um maybe a TW type game called "Knight: Total War" or something? Where you can be a landless knight, there's a HUGE map of "oblivion" proportions where you are free to go or do what you like, whenever. Basically a never-ending game providing years of play, where you can buy up things from a new sword, to a tavern, or castle with property (hence making you money,) etc. At the onset you could choose between being a Norman Knight, a Scandanavian (Russian, Pole, Dane) knight, a Byzantine Knight, or a Muslim Knight, and then just ride around as a lance for hire. As money comes in you can start hiring soldiers or mercenaries, or become one yourself, and join or lead armies in various capacities. Have a drop down menu for equipment, what you own, what missions or whatnot you're working on... Maybe a "Game win" when you own assets bringing in more than 100 million florins a year (basically a Kingdom, and you'd be crowned) or you've gained control of a vast army of more than 10k troops, etc... But with the option to continue playing.

Could work. Would be very fun and would tempt me to possible buy a console.

See this is what I mean the possibilities are endless, like in the beginning you could have a cutscene where your a young peasant boy/girl and thats when you see the majestic knights of old passing past your farm, and thats where your dreams begin.

There was a picture that really captured my imagination of a "Landless Knight" in search of adventure. It was a norman, and I imagined how awesome it would be to be that free, to ride around in search of an adventure before the times of "Show me your papers," with my own Coat of Arms, and being able to court damsels, and freeing peasants from oppressive brigands with a small but capable force of men at arms. If this was done right, you could have a endless possiblity of things to do.

So.. what you basically want is a game like World of Warcraft, Lord of The Rings Online, or any other fantasy based MMO, that's set in medieval Earth times. It could work I suppose, and work well if it was done correctly.

I'm actually working on putting a game like this together (would focus on online more than SP).

It's a very long-term plan though, so don't expect to see it any time soon (or for me to even say a whole lot about it at this point). Hell, I can't even guarantee that it'll ever get made, but it's a solid plan and I'd be surprised if it didn't come together.

Even if I don't make it myself though, I'm pretty sure someone else will.

They're making a new console game right now, it's called Viking: Battle of Asgard. It's supposedly a mixture of GTA's environment, God of War's fighting, and the TW battles/recruiting. While this isn't exactly what you proposed, as this will have undead warriors, dragons, ect., it's still a lot closer than the Spartan game.

Personally I hope their next game takes a more realistic approach that's more similar to the PC games.

You could work the game so that whatever your commander is doing is irrelevant to your particular mission.

At first, as a basic infantry man your mission is to hold the line. Your captain tells you what line to hold, but as far as which line that is, you won't be caring, you just kill who you're told to kill. The beauty of being a lineman is that you don't have to deal with decision making, and probably would prefer to not call the shots. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Once you become a captain and have men under your command, then the general tells you what flank to cover. You tell your men where to go and jump into the action when need be, but for the most part, all you care about is your flank, the rest of the battle isn't really your problem. Once you mop up the enemy with your flank, if that's your mission, then perhaps you could go give aid to other captains on other fronts, but the general's decisions can be programmed to not drastically affect your gameplay.*

Once you become a general, you tell your captains which flanks/fronts to take and they, in turn, tell their linemen. You fight if need be, but for the most part the game takes on the MED:II feel of battle gameplay as you are more of a battle director instead of a battle participant.




I feel like the captain portion of the game would be the must fun as far as the "not currently in battle" portion of the game goes. You could train your troops how you see fit, teach them your ways, and give them hope/bravery. Then maybe when you become general, those troops become your elite units, completely loyal to whatever cause you see fit.

Yeah well like Fable was fun (ONLY console game I ever played start to finish) and you had a lot of freedom, but the map was small and there was a def. ending to it. But you got to choose good, evil, marriage, etc... you could buy stuff...

But basically yes, though I've never played WoWC.
