Default Dutch Poll: No against Flanders joining them

A recent poll (Maurice de Hond) would suggest that even though 80% of all respondents liked the Belgians a great deal, 49% would be against Flanders joining the Netherlands if they decide to break up Belgium. It's only a small margin though with those in favour, 45%.

On a side-note it was reported that a large majority of people who say they would vote for the 'anti-immigrant/islamist' party of Geert Wilders would be in favour of it.

Apparently, neither France or The Netherlands is really eager for all this, judging from the lack of any real enthousiasm on either side so far.

You never know, it's like a bad marriage 'this time I'm going to leave you for real' at times, and the last 'noises' would make it episode XXXXVIII or something.

But the fear is not entirely imaginary, I think:

Not to be nit-picky, but that'd be episode "XLVIII"... I couldn't resist!
This has seriously happened quite often in the past? I didn't realize that.

This is moot point really, since there barely are any Flemings who want to join the Netherlands. It's probably staying with Belgium or an independant Flanders.
    Me, I'd go for Belgium

Why should they join another state if they break up and not create thier own states?

Either create Flanders or join the UK, like I've suggested

    And lets attack the French

I just do not understand why the Netherlands doesnt encompass all the Netherlands. Just because all three countries have minor differences doesnt mean they shouldnt unite. Imagine one state controlling the centers of Europe's banking and trade and controlling the center of the EU.

Eh? The Netherlands were separated after the eighty years war. That is more than 350 years ago. America was still a British colony then. I suppose it would make as much sense to unite the USA and Great Britain.

Yeah Belgium's pretty small, I once bicycled from Brussels to the Dutch border (Roosendaal north of Antwerp) in about 3 hrs, against a fairly stiff wind.

    That was Flanders, north-south.

I noticed the XXXX rap on the keyboard when I saved it (had Latin for 5 yrs), but I left it in - would just have taken one X out, frankly - I even thought of betting with a collegue over it, that SOMEONE would nag, I **** thee not. Lazyness won.

    Congrats

    What can I say?
*rolls up sleeves*, yep, it's a dirty job, upholding annoyance expectations, but somebody's gotta do it!

Anyway, gotta love a prospective country that could be missed in a car if you close your eyes...

Most Americans arent British anymore so it wouldnt make sense. Considering that Flems, Walloons, Dutch, Friesians, and others have usually been considered in the Netherlands I dont see why they shouldnt be united. What do they have to lose?

Their independence from each other? Flemish aren't Dutch, Frisians aren't Walloon.

If the Walloons join France and the Flamish join the Netherlands, who will keep Brussels?

Since it's the only city in Belgium that totally sucks for bicyclists, I suggest the French keep it.

Is this an allusion to the fact that the Tour de France has been kept out of the hands of a French Bicyclist for the last eight years?
