I totally argree with you. I always support the Fall of the Roman Empire date as 1453 not 476.

And yes, indeed.
It wasn't so hard for the east to accept the end of the last western emperor (Augustulus or better said Nepos) because he was only the Iunior Augustus of the complete empire. But in Constantinopoulis was the senior Augustus.
For the roman empire the most important man.
That is also my opinion.
The roman empire continued (legal) its existence in the east. Thats all.

Amazing. Very good article. I am also very interested and familar with the east roman empire.
Your article covers that what I know about the east roman soldiers of the 10th and 11th century.
Can you write some articles about the tagmata and theme system?
