    Default A little trait rant

    Greetings KK, and everyone else.

Let me start off by saying i really enjoy your mod, however i find some part a bit flawed.

The trait system, i know you just use BBB 2.1 but i also find that a bit lacking.

When you start up a new game, most of your family members have good traits, and perhaps a few bad.

When your 150 turns into a campaign all my family members are ALWAYS totaly useless, 90% of them are drunks, 90% of them like men over women, and the rest is totaly cheepskates.

Those bad traits really needs to be lowered down, because if you have famely member are an gov instead of a general then he'll always turn out with bad trait because even 5% chance of a bad trait each turn will yield them to him at some point.

The kings authority is also a pain imo. It always seems to be around 2 or 3 if im lucky, the rest of the time my kings have 0 because of 5 bad traits.

The generals ( in my case ) never get any command stars, simply because I rarely fight againt odds, simply because my armies are put together better.

There seem to be no recording of battles won besides the victor trait line that give + popularity ( is quite useless for an field general )

I had a general that took 9 settlements from the Egypts, and won 13 field battles, yet all he had to show from those hard years was promising commander, renowed victor and 4 bad traits ( Pagan, skewed view, Foreign fruitcake and Overly superstitious ) The guy died 4 years after the end of the war to the black death ( sad tale of a man )

I dont know if im the only one that feel like i have massive amounts of bad trait and only a small handfull of good trait, that get drowned in bad traits.

And last a question about the administrator trait. I have no idea how this works, but every gov i have have this as bad, all my citys are happy ( green faces ) high tax rate and low squalor ( 5% in avage ) I dont see how this can make a person a bad administator really. 90% of them also get the exotic taste trait that give penalities to tax and increased building cost.

As to solve the problems i'd suggest a career system more advanced then the one pressent in BBB. I know DVL have a very good system for gov and generals.

I hope you'll take this as positive critisim, as i really do like SS =)

Totally agree with you Casper. I think Quark is working on a new trait system, especially for SS 5.1. He has announced it some time ago, don't know how he is coming along.

I agree with you too, another thing I dislike very much is the cold trait your generals get at winter, but it even happens on summer weird(Bug).

I agree, it seems like this mod adds far more bad traits than good ones, there where already enough bad traits in the vanilla version.

I think that commanders should always gain a star if they take a settlement of a certain size. Capturing a capital city should give positive traits too, maybe in both command and authority.

lol, Some proper good reading there mate, I totally agree with you. One of my Generals (France) took the entire British Isle and the man had promising commander, shieldbearer, veteran warrior.... oh my. I downloaded a mod for the Britannia campagin, DLV Britannia and checked it out, and their trait system looks promising. If any1 remembers in Rome, I think the mod was SPQR your Generals got traits and experince depending how many years the had served in the field, DLV Britannia seems to have the same system. Not all your Generals can be supreme Commanders with all stars, but at lest they should get positive traits for being in the field after many years, experince should be worth something.

I really like DLV's trait system as well. Mainly for the 'career' system and for the experience in the field system.

Unfortunately SS is not allowed to use DLV's traits for distribution

Would the mod play okay if we just used the vanilla trait files? If so, can someone tell me specifically which files to replace?

Do you have some information about DLV traits system? I am unable to find anything about it. And would it be possible to make it work with SS 5.1 "unoffially", for private use only?

Well Mailor you can download the DVL, take the entire trait file and modify it to work with SS, but every person has to do this them self, as the trait system belong to the dvl team ( Repman ) and i find it only fair they dont like if every other mod takes their files.

Im not sure how much work it would be, and sadly i can't offer much info on how to make the changes since i dont know how, but there are tutorials on the TWcenter boards on how to do it.

DVL have a career system for starters. Where you can to choise if your family member will be a gov or general. taking one path will cause penalties to the other path, but not as severly as they wont be able to be a jack-of-all-trade, just not as good at one that focus on their path. this system is only for the first family members you gain at the start or general you choise to take into you family ( adoption / royal wedding )

2th for comming of age system. There is a student system, where they can learn in castles ( general ) or citys ( Gov ) They can recieve education for 8 years, depending on settlement devolopment, they can gain alot or very few, also depending on the student themself, inteligent members will learn more. After education is finished they can learn from seasoned general ( command, piety or chivalvry / dread ) i dont know much on this.

3rd there is a heraldric system for general, that record how long they been in active field duty, gaining them ranks ( + moral and command ) from squire ( 0 moral / 0 command ) to Grand knight cross ( 3 + moral / command ) This takes 25 years of field duty, 50 turns in DVl since they use 0.5 years per turn. with Bygs supply system this is hard earned. They can also advance in commander rank by gaining heroic victorys.

there is alot more in their trait file, but i dont want to write the hole file up, too much writing =)

Unfortunately SS is not allowed to use DLV's traits for distribution
I know this, i was also suggesting that SS took a look at their files for idea and write something if the SS team desided that some rework on that front was needed.

And i dont know what plan or ideas KK and the team has for future SS

Just to let everyone know, if you replace the traits files with the ones from vanilla the game works fine. Of course, you won't have the supply traits, or any of the features from BBB 2.1, but your rulers actually have good authority and not everyone becomes a homosexual alcoholic.

What are the exact files I need to replace? Having all my generals end up as drunks is extremely annoying.

Queen Anne's Revenge: Have you actually tried this? Are you sure there aren't any troubles with the starting traits in the descr_strat.txt?

I think Caesar is right, you'd have to change this in descr_strat.txt first as well.

Anyway, what I don't understand is, why generals always end up homsexual alcoholics.
At least the alcoholic trait is in vanilla as well (haven't checked the homosexual one). And as people report, only with BBB you get so many drunkards. In vanilla not. But the chances for getting this trait are exactly the same as in vanilla. Something is broken here, but I don't know what.

You try spending 10 years in the field with just horses and spearmen............maybe a foreign fruitcake or two!

    j/k

Maybe the BBB traits should be removed all together since they seem to do more harm than good.

Good thread and i agree with the thread starter.

In my current campaign i haven't even tried to do anything to get better traits as i know that i will get plenty of negative ones anyway.

Don't get me wrong, SS is the best mod out there (in my opinion) and i really like it, it is just this one thing that bothers me a bit.
