So what music gets you inspired to play some XGM and wipe factions off of the map?
For me personaly its a song called 'Knight's of Cydonia' at the minute.

I don't really listen to music when playing games, but good music choice you have there.

You could try this attempt to recreate Homeric singing, or these modern compositions for ancient Greek instruments, or these recreations of ancient Roman music.
Dead Can Dance -- it's perfect. That, or Elton John -- after all, he did write Candle in the Wind about the Seleucid Empire...
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never fading with the sunset
When the Parthian scum came pouring through the mountain passes and shooting your phalanxes all to hell...

I am inspired by X-Ray Dogs Dethroned, or any other choir music

He he nice one cherryfunk. I usually don't listen to music when playing XGM, but sometimes with Parthia i have a disc of a iranian musician Sayed Halil Ali Nejad, who has very nice songs, based on medieval poets. Shooting seleucids into oblivion goes well with it. For the barbarians Manowar is always good
Is it possible to replace Total War in-game music with MP3's u have on HD?
Then I would use music from the movies Troy, Gladiator and 300
Someone made a music pack a while ago that used some of that music...does anyone remember the 300 mod from around 9 months ago? will look around the thread....searching.
edit: Couldn't find what I was looking for but there is a link to a tutorial in the second or third post...hope this helps.

the song that goes for me? some of the songs from Rammstien.(sorry if there is any spelling mistakes in the name) the best song is (to me) Mien teil. (even though the song is about a cannibal..) but mostly Ich Will. Stripped. (I'm not German but i just love their songs!
I'M BAAAAACCCCCKKKKKKK!
Heh i just found a site where you can check my favourite music for when playing Parthia. I think that everything is legal, but if there are problems, mods delete it.
The seventh song from the first album - Maghameh Yaa rab is total seleucid killer, eventhough i can pick up only parts of the lyrics and it's something about God. Who cares the melody is great. http://music.tirip.com/person/641.htm
Metallica, fever dream from the 300 soundtrack and AC/DC.
"So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

Recently I've been looping Hell March from Red Alert 1. Its such a great track to play during war games...
My background music is the "Dun-Dun" from any Law and Order show...my wife loves Law and Order.

Led Zeppelin all the way, specifically Stairway to Heaven. Great song, love listening to it while playing.
What about "The Battle of Evermore"?
Oh war is the common cry, Pick up your swords and fly.
The sky is filled with good and bad that mortals never know.
Oh, well, the night is long, the beads of time pass slow,
Tired eyes on the sunrise, waiting for the eastern glow.
The pain of war cannot exceed the woe of aftermath,
The drums will shake the castle wall, the ringwraiths ride in black, Ride on.
Sing as you raise your bow, shoot straighter than before.
No comfort has the fire at night that lights the face so cold.

How could I forget Battle of Evermore? It's about the siege of Minas Tirith. Robert Plant was a huge fan of LOTR. No Quarter is another good one.
yeah, they're just plain old awesome! My local classic rock radio station played Led Zeppelin A to Z all weekend. It's pretty much their whole library, from A to Z.
