So im playing as the milan. Its just me, and venice, the two super powers in all of europe. We both have all the same enemies, and allies so it looks as if we're about to dominate the eastern world. Shortly after i launch a crusade BAM, for no reason they break alliances with me and go to war. They dont even attack me for 3 turns AFTER they went to war with me. I even had perfect relations with them!

Anyone have any similar experiences or advice? Another thing is that my country had a "despicable" rep. Which is ******** since I played the most passive, forgiving empire I'd ever played. Anyone know how I could fix reputations via modding?

Btw I'm playing with Ultimate Ai newest version, so im really not used to being betrayed in any way. Especially under these circumstances.

    I dunno man ..

I play Stainless Steel 4 with a fix and ive had alliances as Spain with France and Portugal, as well as Aragon, for approx 100 years now.

I have 2 marriage alliances with Aragon, and one with France. Every time I get a princess, I try to marry them to allied nations. The more marriage alliances, the lesser chance of getting turned on I think.

I've even conquered most of Britain and Ireland and have built it up somewhat, and France still doesnt care (That I have them on two fronts, north and south)

    Hi there.

The Diplomacy AI and the war machine AI for a nation do not mix, each persues their own, totally separate policies. Nations will ally with you one turn, keep that alliance and if their army sees a good place to attack, they will attack, thus breaking your allaiance. When you either beat thier army, or that army takes its objectives, the nation will in turn try to call off the war with you because it has orders to do so. It's not set-up well is what it comes do to, so you must be perpared for a battle at all times, even with your enemy.

As for your reputation, there is one sure fire way to keep it up- money. Keep sending that clink along and you should have a high rep. Also, I find that if you do not attack and make your wars very brief, it tends to help your rep.

With a reputation like that, no faction has a reason to trust you.
Try not exterminating/sacking settlements, releasing prisoners and breaking treaties.

playing as Aragon, I was betrayed by France about 120 years into our alliance, Outstanding Relations, and Very Reliable. Sometimes it makes no sense.
