Anyone notice this stupid thing in MTW2: AI provoke war an lay siege on you. Your people fight back to destroy the siege then your relation with this IA and the dumb pope worsens. If you do not fight and let them exterminate then your relation doesn't hurt!

Understandable that the relation worsens to this faction (since you are waging war against it). And the pope doesn't like seeing catholic factions fighting against each other as well. Give him some money, and he'll be your friend again

Hmm i always though you were allowed to defend your land, even againt fellow christians if you are playing a christian faction.

Even with those "stop hostalities missions" from the pope, you are allowed to attack their army's in your own territory or defend off sieges againt you.

i thought that you could defend your land too, but if you want to attack you can put your armies next to the ai's armies in thier own country and for the most part they'll attack and it dosen't count as hostillities. the pope hates me so i have to improvise. aparently i should burn in the eternal fires of hell and damnation.

Just did a few tests on this subject, and here is the results.

Took the late era campaign as england and started attacking scotland, the pope loved scotland at the time, and after 2 attack he stopped me to attack or i would get excomunicated.

I halted my attacks, but then a army from scotland went into my lands and i attacked it right away, no reputation hit with the pope, and i did not get excomunicated, i then attacked Edinburg, and i got a small message box, asking me if i really wanted to do that, as it would result in an excomunation.

So all in all, you are allowed to defend your land, even against fellow christians, but are only allowed to attack very little depending on the faction's standing with the pope you are attacking.

If your still having problems with the pope, try to get alot of cardinals, that will improve your standing with him, and bribe him some with $$.

I personly dont understand that relations cant improve during war.

Enemies can have respect for each other after all. If you release captured enemies it shouldnt worsen the relations at least, which happens now.

It shouldn't if KK's used my faction_standing file, releasing prisoners gives a boost to relations. However the fact you are at war might be lowering your relations, as well as other acts, to counteract the boost given by releasing prisoners.
