    Default Strange Battle Maps

    Hello guys!
I´ve been playing many mods for M2TW for several months and there is something unusual that I noticed: there are many battle maps in the campaign that are really odds with too many natural obstacles.
Battles in places like Spain or Italy usually happens in maps with many hills and mountains that make difficult to fight. And places like Armenia and Turkey are IMPOSSIBLE to fight!! There are cliffs between you and your enemy and these in some cases are impossible to pass trough and you must quit the battle, suffering a defeat. Other times when you can pass trough these natural obstacles, you already lost half your men with enemy arrows. It´s ridiculous!!
It´s also common to see many roads that ends in the middle of no where and also that go 90º, climbing up cliffs.
I don´t know if this also happens in vanilla, because I´ve never actually played it. The mods make the game MUCH better!!!
But in RTW I´ve never had these problems. The battles were in awesome maps that looked liked more real for a battle place. I´ve never seen any natural obstacle in RTW that would make the battles confuse both in vanilla or in RTW mods.

So, my question is: WHY DOES THIS HAPPENS???

    THANKS

parameters set for the generation of the map?

I suspect the map generation is based on scaling up the terrain you are actually on in the main map, so a small lump on the map is magnified a lot. So fighting close to mountains on the map exagerates the feature somewhat, too much by the sounds of it!

IIRC it was worse in MTW1.

Just avoid fighting on foot of mountains.

This happens in the vanila game just like you describe, cases where you can't approach the enemy, and suffer an unfounded defeat if you attack (or you defend with no time limit... the AI doesn't back off...)

No offense, but if you have never played the vanila game, how do you know the mods are so better??

Even with time limit, i seriously doubt any human player would have the patience to sit and wait for 45 minutes.

i just think of these moments of ai and map incompetence as a break, i speed up time and find myself a snack or get some school work done

Bad news is: I don't play battles with time limit. So if i do get such a battlefield, i can only lose.

Yes, I understand that this happens because of the terrain generation in the campaign, but anybody have an idea that why in RTW the battle maps generated are much better?

The terrain generation was changed slightly between RTW and M2TW, it's the reason you get maps with greater variations in height in M2TW as compated to RTW.

So, is not possible to mod this, making the terraing generator much better just like it was in RTW?

Has anyone already tried to do this?

Ive never fought a battle where I CANT get to my opponent. Although it may be very hard there is normally a way.

Easiest way to find out is to select one of your units (not siege, one that can go up steep surfaces) and right click the minimap on top of the enemy unit. The unit will then find its own route to the enemy.

I agree that you often need to be on unlimited time and that the enemy will sometimes cut you to pieces with missile fire but think about it, if you were in their shoes you'd find the hardest most innacessible spot and sit there to defend from, raining missiles down on your foe.
Hit them as hard as you can, as fast as you can, where its going to hurt them the most..... and preferably when theyre not looking!
