why don't unit strengths add to population when i disband a unit in the town? i thought this was supposed to occur as it did in Rome. is this as designed or a bug?

Because you do not discount them from your population when they are recruited

Yeah unfortunately they didn't put this feature into M2TW. You'll also notice that recruiting units will not deplete your settlements' population. It's a shame really cos I really liked that feature in Rome.

Personally, I hate it. I can't move 5,000 people from my large cities to my outlieing towns/castles anymore.
