They become very helpful when you gift them a bit of your empire so that they can create an army.

I actually protect my vassals tho, Venice was under seige by the Evil Nazi Empire and I sent my armies from Rome to help Venice, I also helped the Turks from the Mongols too. lol I have 2 marriage alliances with France and the French king is pretty much 75% greek and they went bankrupt once because they are doing this epic war with the Germans (they took Frankfurt 3 times) so I gave them money. lol I married 1 German princess but she didnt make any heir and when the war broke out Constantinople went blue face because she cause unpopularity for the emperor...

lesson to learn... German princesses are cursed.... Marie Antoinette.. Alexandra.. and this empress..

The Germans made Denmark their bi+ch

Because of the freakin German Empress who produced no Comnenid heir, now the Emperor is from the Trabezond blood line which a branch of the Comnenus but from the husband of one of the princesses of Andronicus (confusing?) The Comnenus now only rule in Egypt, Naples, Edessa and Carthage (I changed Tunis to Carthage when I captured it)

I changed Cairo to Babylon on the Nile, Dongola to Axum and Caffa to Theodosia lol

changing city's name is easy. Open the city details, and click on its name on the top of it. You can then edit the name.

A vassal is someone who you have military rights to, are allied with and basically control. A good way to get a vassal would be to capture most their cities, blockade their ports, etc, until they accept becoming your vassal.
