    chivarly gives your forces greater morale, dread lowers the enemy forces morale
    i beleive its a scale of one to ten in conjunction with the 1 to 10 chiv/dread rating

    for campaign the dread would make populations fearfull i think so more law and order, where as chivalry would give better happyness

    Dread is also a trait of tyranny. The bigger dread you have, the more you are despised by the rest factions (and feared also).

    The opposite is the chivalrous. The more chivalric you are, the more your opponents and the rest factions see you in a favorable eye.

    If your leaders have high dread, your reputation will suffer considerably and you will find other factions make any excuse to go to war with you. Your allies are more prone to backstabbing you as well.

    Chivalry keeps friendly relations and reasonably good neighbours.

    Occupying settlements increases Chivalry.

    Exterminating settlements increases Dread.

    Chivalry:

    As a Governor;
    Adds to population growth and happiness
    As a General;
    Adds to morale

    Dread:

    As a Governor;
    Adds to law
    As a General;
    Decreases enemy morale

    I gave the king of Scotland full chiv once, just for a change. Gave his son full dread. Playing as England btw. By the time London (without any recruitment, normal tax) hit 8000 pop, Edinburgh hit 18000! Then the king died and 10 stars of dread now rule the throne, but not for long...

    Basicly:
    Chivalry=Well liked and lots of good stuff
    Dread=Severely gimped and not nearly as good as stuff says. Does hardly anything.

    Dread is about as good as the amount of control you get over the pope when he is elected (another overhyped feature).

    Chivalry definatly has its advantages for the administration and political (domestic and diplomatic) part of the game.

    High Dread Generals usually rout enemy units on contact (especially if the enemy has no general with him), something that HighChiv Generals aint able to do most of the time. also DreadGenerals are better used for wars in provinces with different religions or other unrest, as they dont have to take care of their chiv and can exterminate freely.

    Dread is easier to get, but chivalry is better - at least thats my experience.
