    Here are my screenies:









    I have already applied "SS5.1smoke_fix_test.zip" in #367.

    The burning men are in squares too, if you look closely. I can't remember this happened I applied the fix or not. Also normal boulder trail is in sqaures too.

    FYI, I am using the latest nVidia drivers 169.21.


    My PC spec: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, Asus P5Q Deluxe, 8Gb, ATi 4870 512Mb, X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Pro PCI Express and a BIG hard drive.

    (no weapons damage/range, etc. values are changed from KK's SS 5.1 in descr_projectile.txt)

    The arrow smoke is a WIP (work in progress) and still very incomplete..
    I recommend you run effects on highest; turn down other settings (grass low, building detail low- keep unit detail high ;-)) if necessary..



    I want to know about catapult and trebuchet smoke please with this release -V1.1

    Work on the flaming rocks will be later..main thing is if big square textures gone.

    My next post will be on screenies and graphics tools ;-) give me 10-15 mins

    I do recommend unpacking Vanilla MTW2 with "unpack_all.bat"

    And don't change or touch anything in vanilla after unpacking..hands off!

    Using FILE MONITOR I can tab out and see every file being loaded in SS; only SS and Vanilla folders are being accessed, and SS needs those textures in vanilla. When they are unpacked they are readily accessible without having to be uncompressed from the *.packs!

    Unpacking and making sure you use:

    [io]
    file_first = 1 <--(we all know this)

    I also use

    [io]
    file_first = 1
    disable_file_cache = 1

    in Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg..

    Just to make sure no old files are being loaded when I'm constantly running and exiting and making changes..whether this helps I'm not sure.

    Never duplicate a command or section in .cfg, it will cause CTD!

    I'm experimenting some with changing buffers:

    model_buffers_per_node = 5

    sprite_buffers_per_node = 5

    water_buffers_per_node = 3

    lower water, higher model and sprites, too high and "video memory is full" message and CTD! (I tried 8 ;-)

    If you have 2 x 768mb SLI cards (or quad), this is worth tweaking ;-))

    SCREENSHOTS:

    <PRINT SCREEN> will save campaign and battlemap screens to your tga folder in main MTW2.

    I've been using http://www.irfanview.com/ for over 10 years now; it is the best of the best of the freeware viewers..

    Associate with bmp, jpg,tga only...is what I do..it is good for .wav previews too..

    It has superfast crop and resize...drop and drag w/left mouse to crop your screenshot to the important parts, resize so it is not too huge but big enough to see details.

    Hit enter and it will go fullscreen; click mouse and you can scan through all your tga screenshots..go into options to remove file title, set fullscreen options, loop directory viewing, etc..always use Lanczos filter for resizing, sampling.

    Save as .jpg 88-95% compression is what I use.

    Go to http://photobucket.com/ and start a free account.

    All the free photo-hosting sites limit bandwidth, so picture size is important, photobucket is fine for posting on sites that do not have superhigh traffic.

    Upload your picture! To post screenshot here rightclick on new pic in your album (in Firefox) and select "view image". You should then see image by itself on blank page.

    Copy your url in address bar only to the .jpg part

    example:http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg183/wolfslayer7/arrowtest.jpg?t=1198462850

    Then click the little yellow square above here (insert image) and paste in that part...you can include the "http:// when you copy and just paste over the one that comes up here..or just copy the highlighted part; you will get hang of it.

    You can also use the IMG code included at photobucket and paste straight into this message box. That will include extra info, and clicking on the pic here will take you to photobucket..

    "preview post" and see how it looks before you post...

    Only I wanted to settle down, drink some cofee (5 A.M Kiev/Athens/Cairo time), listen to some Metal, FINALLY work on some textures, and here: you update. =\

    Ok, ok, will check it...

    In Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg there is a true/false variable, instead of 0/1. Or am I checking wrong .cfg?

    use "true" if its already true

    1 and true

    and

    0 and false are same, for some of the switches in .cfg, I think ;-)

    Imageshack is good too I use that sometimes..

    In the public domain movie "The Sword of Lancelot" the archer's fire arrows have grey/white smoke; but who knows what kind of movie pyrotechnics they might have used.

    Now descriptions of what actually happens.

    Flaming Arrows - the confetti trails on the arrows perfectly complement the starry night sky! No smoke at all - so no squares...



    Catapult looks all-right... Except that space-era projectile.



    Trebuchet. Compare with catapult... Yes, the ugly smoke.



    Ballista combines the ugly arrow trails with some evil smoke... But not square!!!



    Mangonel, on the other hand, looks perfect.



    Naphta Bomb... Look cosely - it is in the center of the screen... No, there was no Guddini - it actually is there, flying from left to right with stupid starry trails!

    All 3 txt files were zipped straight from my SS folder after I tested..

    Is there a way to capture screenshots on a current resolution? I means through game, not other tools, as the game removes "Paused" message and makes all the units visible as models, not sprites when it captures creenshot... But Narrows it to 1024 x 768, except my native 1280 x 700-with something widescreen.

    I'm kinda glad that I am no the only one who's suffering from this. I was about to post some more screenies but Echad has already covered it.

    I getting tired in UK so I'm gonna go bed; got a party tommorow night.

    Yeah, only Orthodox Christians stay without a holiday... Our Church counted the Lord's birthday at 7th of January. Although I do not see how there are so many denominations of Christians possible... I mean by dogmatics - each confession has wasted their time to point up, how they do differ and why all other denominations absolutely burn in hell. And there are also hudreds of absolutely crazy sects like Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons. =\ Stuuupid.

    You can use Hypersnap..I have an ancient version from an old windows 95 HD , but it has DirectX capture..here is my widescreen 1280 x 768 resized 80%.

    NO SQUARES for me..arrow trails are doubled though, need to fix.

    My MB is better than my vid cards; 2 x 7600 GS SLI 256mb with the latest nvidia regular drivers/. forceware 163.75; so mine are by no means high end.

    I know this whole mess is an issue with the extra projectiles in projectiles.txt and available effects slots; how to fix it is the issue.

    Maybe it's insufficient video memory? I got 256... 2x256=more? =\ Or does SLI not count here?

    So, do you plan to do a half-decent half-final release today or later? I will be without access to internet after about 7 hours and I would like to update my fix pack before...
