First game ever with WRE is over, that was bloody hard. Best game I've had on a TW game without a doubt. Exausting and rewarding.

Tempted to try as the WRE in BI, but its a little overwhelming with the situation at the start. I'd rather start with one city and build from there, rather than having a management headache at the very beginning.

No matter the difficulty, I say big gratz to you I've still to complete any game of RTW, vanilla and BI.

Mind you, i didn't really take BI that seriously after my game when my horde of about 5 full stacks of goths ran across all of italy, sieged and took rome at the beginning of the game.

"So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweets shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son... that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business, really. But, sure enough, I got the M&Ms, and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show."

Well done! Post another screen when you get the whole map.
Asking for rep is a sure fire way to not receive any, at least from this old cynic.

Congratulations! Did it for the first time several weeks ago on M/M. At the moment I play the sarmatians on VH/M and it's quite a lot of fun to buy some provinces from WRE-empire and to be under it's protectorate. They are usefull allies indeed.

Nice campaign, even if I'm not an expert on BI it's pretty hard to conquer and hold such a big empire together.

Yes those hordes are a big danger because it is so difficult to wipe them out completely. My tactic with the franks: First I smash into ground their army and after that I besiege vicus franki with a small army. After a few turns I stop the besiege for a moment so that the can't die because of starvation. Consequently they just have to wait because they aren't able to produce anything...

In my last campaign I retreated to Italy, in three turns I had no province outside Italy (except Sicily and Corsica) and I won in h/h difficulty.

Yes, I know what happened to you. You have to sacrifice the majority of your family members or they will drain your resources. I made the Empire Pagan so I managed to kill all Christian family members and the money problems disappeared. Don't forget to disband units, destroy all buildings and raise taxes to very high in the cities you plan to abandon. I managed to raise my treasury up to 50K. Reduce your army to peasant garrisons in Italy, Sicily and Corsica and to one field army in the north of Italy. Train some spies to watch out for the hordes and keep a diplomat in you former eastern province, I managed to ally with the Huns, the Vandals and the Goths and saw the Eastern Empire being destructed by those hordes plus the Sassanids in the East (they had betrayed me in the previous game) .
