Default Today I took the Oath of Enlistment

Title pretty much says it all. This morning I was at MEPS for 2 long hours of processing and examination, and I was sworn into the service of the US Marine Corps. Since I'm still in High School I was put in the Delayed Entry Program and I am on schedule to ship to Basic next August. I signed up as an Infantry Officer.

Today I begin a journey. I am anxious, yet fearful, however, I am ready for this, afterall when you have 4 years to think about something, you usually have a pretty straight mindset.

    Thoughts? Comments? ? ?

Yet another of my friends who signed up for the armed forces.

All I can say is, take care of yourself out there.

Thanks Beren, well I won't be heading to Basic until next August, so I got plenty of time (which by some reason will probably go by very quick)

Umm... I doubt you signed as an Infantry Officer as that requires a college degree. Did you perhaps sign up for PLDC?

I was kinda wondering how that worked. In germany, in order to become an officer, you need either have graduated grammar school (which goes till either 12th or 13th grade) or have graduated middle school (10th grade) plus have learned an occupation.
So what exactly do you need to become an officer in the US? Go to college after having graduated high school?

Not to be rude... but is the US marines actually recruiting high school undergraduates or is this porkies?

You have to complete high school before you can go to training, but at 17 with parental permission you can sign up to go to training after graduation. However, you can drop out of the military at anytime until you ship for training.

MEe too, Marines also. When are you going to San Diego? Maybe I'll see you there.

BTW, you were only there for two hours? You got it easy, I was there from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm. Whats your MOS? Mine is Motor T.

Oh wait your going in August?!! Maybe I will see you there, I ship out on August 8th I believe.

You need a college degree to become an officer in the US Army.

Well in Sweden you need too have done your service with grades 7 7 10 in three different subjects and completed high school, and then there is two years of school i think.

Does it apply to reserve officers aswell? At least in Finland you have to have completed high school or some other school before you can go to cadet school. But conscript who go to reserve training school don't have to have high school etc completed.

Holy ****, that's exactly what I'm doing next weekend. Are you going to San Diego or Parris Island? I'm going to San Diego over the summer, I'll be a grunt in the 92 day reserve and then PLC.
