Yeah, I feel its kind of annoying if I feel like using sarcasim-(which I excel at )- to say "said _____ sarcasticaly, and other qualifying statements, so I figured, why not use the ___~___ symbol to indicate sarcasim?

Its already on English International and English specific keyboards around the world, and how hard would it be to go.

    Yes, that is absolutely believeable~!

For those of you that have read this so far, and think your going to be clever by using sarcasim against me, your not, because your only proving my point.

Also pertaining to its mathematical use, if you see a bunch of numbers next to the symbol, then I think we can conclude its not being used for sarcasim.

    ^ LOL

The point of sarcasm is to get somebody to think your serious, get a reaction out of them, and then point out that you were, in fact, joking.

Actually, the idea is to make that up from the context and the rest of the conversation. Emoticons are for braindead people, really.

I realize that, but maybe its just here but I am required to use qualifying statements after sentances on term papers, and it could just be an OPTIONAL thing you could use at your discretion.

EDIT_plus what god said qualifies what I said, if he hadn't added that mark would you have known he was being sarcastic?

Sorry, but the "~" symbol has a purpose. It is a math symbol used for estimations.

It is a truly fantastic idea. How anyone has ever been able to notice sarcasm without them is beyond me.~
Maybe we need a special mark for rhetorical questions¬~

For all of you thinking your clever by using this sarcasim mark against me, your not. Without those your statements could sound true, and with them you prove my point as to why we need them.

    Thanks.

Also to Roman Clone- yes but it can be multi functional, I believe your teachers can tell when it has a bunch of numbers next to it it refers to the mathematical use of it.

Likewise, people should be able to make up from the rest of the conversation, and past behaviour, if someone is taking the piss or not.

If you spell everything out, people don't exactly get any smarter.

Also, you shouldn't be using sarcasm in term papers anyway.

Term papers was a bad term, it could be a story you have to write for literature class or something like that.

And if your making short statements like this post, or in a play, this mark could be useful especially for practicing actors learning thier first lines to know when sarcasim is used.

Can someone name a NEGATIVE point, as how an optional mark will detract from the english language rather then pointing out that you don't always need it.
