All I listen to at the moment is Sun Ra, John Zorn and some jazz-influenced rock bands.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have nothing against the womens movement. Especially when Im walking behind it.
Miles Davis. The Mahavishnu Orchestra (that's more Fusion)
Then there are the classics: Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, etc.
John Coltrane, off the top of my head.

Duke Ellington, that's all I have to say.

Jazz-influenced rock: Steely Dan anyone?
I prefer Coltrane over Miles Davis (Davis is very good, this is just a preference thing).

for more from the wonderful world of Humber Reloaded, just google it!Then I weighed him I said, “Holy ****!” because he weighs 900,000,000,000,000,000 tons. That amazing weight made me say the “S” word.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I'll listen to them later.

An update (because I'm bored):
I've got some Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis & John Coltrane albums.
MO is by far my favourite so I'm looking at fusion more now. I got some Return to Forever albums but I don't really like the singing in the early ones and the later albums don't interest me very much... I'm going to listen to Weather Report next.
Miles Davis and Coltrane are both very good too, but I haven't listened to them much yet.
John Zorn is still jazz king![]()

I see you like more fusion and jazz rock/avant garde.
Look up Miles' *****es Brew, The Jack Johnson Sessions, In a Silent Way, The Cellar Door Sessions, Black Beauty, Tutu/Amandla (not my cup of tea but they're good still.)
Coltrane Ascension (if you feel like you're really brave,) A Love Supreme
Sun Ra (any of his later stuff is insane.)
I'm sure Rush has mentioned Frank Zappa, and Chick Correa.
Herbie Hancock's Chameleon is great. Future Proof and Dis is Da Drum is also good.
Of course, there's Metheny, McLaughlin, and Pat Martino (guitar works.) John Scofield and Martin, Medeski, and Wood made some really good Funk/Jazz records.
Check out Jimmy Smith for some good Funk/Soul-Jazz as well.
That's all I can think of right now. If you like more classic jazz I can tell you more, though I think they'll not suit your current taste. Given that you're coming at Jazz from the rock perspective, you'd probably like to ease into it a bit.

Django Reinhardt
old school jazz at its best
also the dude only had two fingers, played awesome guitar AND resisted the temptation to be called 'Django two fingers'
but then he didn't do hard drugs so maybe he doesn't count as jazz in the traditional sense...
