Double click the name in the Settlement details screen and rename it to whatever you want.

Yep. You can. Open up the settlement construction window. Click on the settlement name at the top. You'll see a blinking cursor bar to the right of the current name. Move the cursor bar with the arrow keys on your keyboard to position cursor for inserting words or whatever or use backspace to delete and write in what you choose in it's place.

I dont have the game open atm and haven't done settlement name change in a long while so I might have been off on some details, but that's the process as I remember it.

You have to wait until the population grows, I think. I haven't spent as much time in the American campaign as much as Britannia or Crusades. I also advise improving farms in the region if at all possible. Good luck to you!

You have to earn the grattitude of your Spanish Patrons (the monarchs) to gain access to higher tiers. Technocticlan starts out at tier 3. You must complete enough missions from the Spanish Consulate to upgrade it beyond that.

You have to upgrade the walls. That's the only thing that can change it on the Strat map.
Yes, I hate the fact RTW is out and I still have a Japanese title. Come on now admins- let's get with the program.

Mexico is a funny city, it starts off with the Mesoamerican style infrastructure (seeing how its ruled by Aztecs) but the only way one can change the culture of his settlement, is to upgrade the tier. However, the only way you can upgrade the walls of Mexico to a large city, is with 12,000 population and a port. Because Mexico is landlocked, it cant build a port, and this dooms it to a Mesoamerican Infrastructure throughout the whole game.
