Default Michel Sardou -- the Yankees

Courtesy of Google Translate, and feeble translation attempts.

See this powerful Frenchman tribute to America.

This thread is aimed at patriots (on both sides of the continent OCEAN (typo)). Miscreants please don't apply...

Watch it, then read the lyrics.

Michel Sardou -- Les Ricains (The Americans)

    Code:
Si les Ricains n'etaient pas la If Yanks I sing of had not come
Vous seriez tous en Germany You all would be in Germany
A parler de je ne sais quoi Speaking of something, don't know what
A saluer je ne sais qui Saluting someone, don't know whom

Bien sur les annees ont passe Of course the years by now have passed
Les fusils ont change de mains The guns of course have changed their hands
Est-ce une raison pour oublier dis?	Is this a reason to forget it?
Qu'un jour on a eu besoin That one day we had needed them

Un gars venu de Georgie A youth had come from Georgia
Qui se foutait pas mal de toi Who didn't give a damn for you
Est venu mourrir en Normandie And left his life at Normandy!
Un matin ou tu n'y etais pas One morning when you didn't show

Bien sur les annees ont passe Of course the years by now have passed
On est devenu des copains And we have all become fast friends
A l'Amicale du fusille But at the shots association
On dit qu'ils sont tombes pour rien	They said their graves have been for nothing

Si les Ricains n'etaient pas la If Yanks I sing of had not come
Vous seriez tous en Germany You all would be in Germany
A parler de je ne sais quoi Speaking of something, don't know what
A saluer je ne sais qui Saluting someone, don't know whom

I put this here because, unfortunate as that is, the topic of this thread is politically very uncomfortable for some people.

What does it matter, one slavery or another.

One question: How can they be a Yankee if they come from Georgia? This is like mistakenly saying everyone in the UK is English.

they're not yankee. Calling a southerner a blue belly is an insult
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Yankee means someone from the north. Thats why calling a southerner a yank is an insult. It's something like that I think.

    Americans = Yanks
According to the Theory of War, which teaches that the best way to avoid the inconvenience of war is to pursue it away from your own country, it is more sensible for us to fight our notorious enemy in his own realm, with the joint power of our allies, than it is to wait for him at our own doors.

Yank was certainly not created to be a term of endearment, its similar to limey I suppose. Both terms were born in each respective country, but have been used in a less than flattering light.

Yankees are anyone from north of the mason dixon line and those that we don't truly consider southerners. Anyone from states outside of the steller 11.

I think the roots take place in the fact that the south was closer to the brits then the north and we borrowed the term yank and transformed it to yankee. Yank means redneck technically and given the aristocratic society of the south it was easy to call poor white s and immigrants rednecks or yanks/ yankee.

Up until and past the civil war society in the south represented a form of british society. hell our whole notion of slavery came from you guys. The plantation has it's roots in the british involvement in ireland.
