If I wanted to change the year counter to 1 year per turn (via Desc_strat file), would this effect anything else? I only ask because I had a CTD that was never solved, want make sure nothing goes wrong this time

your generals will no longer age correctly. but that is it as far as i know.
to change it change timescale 0.50 to timescale 1.00
Hellfire, wait a second there. Keep in mind, that the time scale for early era campaign is 1.5 (which means 2 turns = years). The late era campaign has timescale 1.0 (1 turn = 1 year). However, the generals will ALWAYS age 0.5 yrs per turn, independent of the timescale. So only when you have set timescale to 0.5 (2 turns = 1 year), the generals (and all other characters) will age "correctly".
To topic starter: Generally spoken, the timescale modification shouldn't cause any major problems. However, keep in mind that income, population growth, building times, training times etc. are calculated in turns. So changing the timescale can throw stuff out of balance, especially late in the campaign.
My Home is my Castle.
wouldn't the events be screwed up too?
No they're based on the number of years since game start, not turns.
