    Default First time player.

    Thanks for the great mod!

When Forth Eorlings (sp) came out, I didn't play it because I usually try to stick to the historical side of things. Just recently, I was yet again getting tired of MTWII and its mods so I decided to go back to BI for inspiration.

I remember BI as having the best AI in any of the TW games I've played. I remember the Huns surrounding my towns, using several siege engines to breach my walls in 10 places, and swamping me with their troops. This brings me to my first question for your latest version. I'm playing on med/med with Huge unit sizes (for the first time yay!) as Dunland. With my orc units, I was hoping to swamp the horse lords with several large stacks at once (just like in BI). It seems like I can't do that though because my reinforcements don't show up until some of my units have died. Could anyone explain to me how I can resolve this and/or why it was possible in BI but not in this mod?

Next I'd like to ask where I could download your previous mods if I wanted to play them and if you suggest doing so. Were they the same map or bigger/smaller?

Anyway, I'll leave it at that for now.

Ah yes, you can't control more than 20 units at the same time. If one of your stacks dies, One stack from the reinforcements will replace them. That's vanilla and there's nothing we can do about it, sorry.

By previous mods I presume you mean previous builds ? The map is either smaller, or lots of current features weren't implented yet. The New Shadow is the latest and the best build so far.

It's nice to see people return to RTW after buying M2TW

If you chose the let the AI handle the reinforcing armies, then you can have more than 20 units on the field - assuming your gfx card can handle them, because if it can't, the reinforcements are delayed or never appear.

The previous builds of the mod can all be found on our own forum www.thefourthage.org/forums, but we only offer support for the latest version. Each version includes a larger part of the map, more factions/buildings/units/sounds/images, less bugs and more improvements, so better to stick with the latest one.

Thanks guys. I thought mods like Forth Eorlings and the Corsairs were completely different experiences.

So in vanilla BI only the AI could field more than one stack? I remember them having one stack on one side of the city sieging and another on the other side in siege mode as well. When they attacked, it was overkill as they came at me together. Can the AI in FATW do the same? Was I somehow mistaken (I don't think I was)?

Its too bad though that players can't use more than one stack in a battle. I was really hoping to use my mass orc numbers to overwhelm the powerful riders.

Seriously though, don't you guys think the AI in BI is much better than MTWII? Battle AI especially.

The AI can have mutliple stacks in FATW too, just like BI. There is a chance that they are delayed or never show up, but that chance was there in BI also. We can't affect such hardcoded stuff.

You can assign any other armies to Ai control and so get to have multiple armies on the field too. But the AI will of course not play as smart as you do.

Yep, personally, I think that BI is much better than vanilla M2, in quite a few aspects... But that's tastes.

I'm not sure on this, but units might be delayed from entering a battle if too many are on the field as it is, especially with several full stacks ganging up on one enemy stack. There is an option for unlimited men in the preferences.txt file; maybe selecting it might help you get more men in place?

    UNLIMITED_MEN_ON_BATTLEFIELD:FALSE

Thats the line you are talking about. I don't think its in the actually game menu though.

Does anyone know if changing that will allow for multi-stack battles?

p.s. Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, but I'm curious now.

Just change the "FALSE" part to "TRUE" and it should work. Butit will burden your system, if it's not a good one...
