Question about auxiliary buildings I/II/III?
While playing as the Greek cities I noticed that I couldn’t recruit in Corinth after taking it from Macedon. Instead I had to build the auxiliary buildings first, not just in Corinth, but all the other Greek cities.
I was also getting a culture penalty from the cities, and the buildings have Greek in parenthesis (for their culture) as if the game was treating them as different from my own.
Is this WAD? Seems a little odd that I would have to assimilate fellow Greeks, maybe the northern Macedonian cites (core), but not the Greek cites they conquered.
I don’t remember seeing this in RTR 6, but it has been a while and I just started playing RTRPE.

Re: Question about auxiliary buildings I/II/III?
I think your question is answered in the FAQs.
http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=90516
To quote the relvant section;
10) "What are these auxilia buildings?"
The auxilia buildings slows down the game a bit by avoiding the "steam rolling affect" common in the vanilla game and reflects the fact that it took some time to change the culture of a settlement. The Phase I Auxilia structure represents your cultures subjugation of a foreign territory. The structure only gives you a population control benefit, but is necessary to construct the Phase II Auxilia structure. The Phase II structure, with some factions, allows you to recruit limited local troop types, and lends additional population control benefits. This is considered an abstraction of your colonization of the area. Finally, the Phase III Auxilia structure allows you to recruit all locally available native troop types, and also adds additional population control benefits. This structure is an abstraction that represents your cultures assimilation of a native territory. You can only start to build your own faction's "core units" after you've finished building all of the auxilia buildings and completed the Provincial Barracks structure.
Additional Notes on Barracks:
- Foreign Provincial barracks, Royal barracks and Auxilia buildings are completely useless and can be safely destroyed.
- Foreign Stables and Practice Ranges will allow you to produce the corresponding units but they will give a cultural penalty.
- The military buildings work like this:
Auxilia Phase 1 = Gives a happiness bonus
Auxilia Phase 2 = Able to build basic AoR units in the area.
Auxilia Phase 3 = Able to build all AoR units in the area.
Barracks = Build basic faction units + all AoR units in the area.
Royal Barracks = All faction units + all AoR units in the area.
This is the same for RTR 6 Gold as RTR PE.
Even if you are the same culture as the settlement you take it's more than likely you will need to build your own auxillary buildings. Take care though as sometimes the settlement will have buildings of your cuture (temples etc) that you can use. If you take a settlement and can build a level II or III building straight away then you are lucky - I think this can happen if you play the Greek States (for instance). If you are a similar culture to the settlement then there is less of a culture penalty (than if you were a Greek in a Barbarian settlement).
You will find that some settlenments will rebel to your faction (so they must already have your culture's buildings).

Re: Question about auxiliary buildings I/II/III?
Thank you for your reply.
However, I have been a long time player of RTR and I understand the reason for the auxilia buildings. My apologies if I was not clear; my question is specifically how RTRPE interprets “Greek” culture?
In the current release of RTRPE it appears that Macedon and the City States are being recognized as separate cultures and as a consequence some of the cities that start the game under Macedonian control have “Macedonian Greek” culture instead of City State Greek (Classical?). It would appear that I cannot use the auxilia buildings already constructed, further I cannot upgrade existing temples.
When I hold the mouse cursor over buildings that I constructed, I get the type of structure; when I do the same for a structure that was built by Macedon, I get (in parenthesis) the add description Greek, exactly like I would for a building of a separate culture.
The game starts in 280 BC which is what, fifty years after the conquest of Greece by Alexander? Maybe the politics changed but not the fundamental culture, at least not enough to justify all three levels of auxilia, the same as if I had conquered an entirely non-Greek province.
My question is whether or not this is supposed to be the case for the Greek Cities, retaking what are fundamentally Greek provinces (Corinth, etc)?

Re: Question about auxiliary buildings I/II/III?
I have no idea why the game does that. Afaik there were no changes in this regard from RTR 6 Gold to RTRPE. RTRPE is for its most part just a port to a "new" engine, or better said to another version of RTW. Nobody that I know of decided to make macedonian greek culture and greek greek culture as you say. Both macedon and greek cities are of greek culture in the text files. Like they were before. The buildings(auxilia) are faction specific though(as they were before from what I know).
