Starting off note: I know it's cool to hate rap, but I request you all as well behaved gentlemen and ladies to avoid posting posts tantamount to rap is teh crap. rap suxxors.

Please! These posts will be ignored and ******* on.

This is just for the MCs no DJs no groups.

Off the top of my head:

    1.) Tupac
    2.) Q-Tip
    3.) Supernatural
4.) Pharoahe Monch (probably my favourite rapper at the moment)
    5.) Ghostface Killah
6.) MF Doom (and his other alias')
    7.) Nas
    8.) GZA
    9.) Biggie Smalls
10.) Eyedea (too bad he no longer raps.)

    did a few more

    11.) Chuck D
    12.) Talib Kweli
    13.) Brother Ali
14.) Mos Def (I'm a big fan of his music)
    15.) ODB (the drunken master!)
    16.) Busta Rhymes
17.) Del Tha Funkee Homo Sapien
    18.) Felix (from Heiruspecs)
19.) Vinnie Paz (listen to his voice, that alone is friggin' awesome.)
20.) Cannibus (this is slightly controversial, but his lyrical quality is amazing despite the fact that he doesn't have as many fans as he should.)

No love for Black Thought? (the Roots) I saw them live, amazing. I know comparing live and studio or tv is hard, but concert footage etc of rap has nearly always sounded crap to me. Not the case with Roots, BT's vocals were great.

I'll say Eminem, simply because he's one of the few rappers I've heard more than one or two songs of, and I like the majority.

Snoop Dogg, I like his sound (meaning his voice and delivery, we're keeping music out of this, right?)

I agree with Talib Kweli - one of the few times I've heard a rapper and went "that sounds ace". Part of that was the music though.

I spose you should consider my contributions the opinion of a very casual rap fan.
    Life, go easy on me

Then I weighed him I said, “Holy ****!” because he weighs 900,000,000,000,000,000 tons. That amazing weight made me say the “S” word.

That's true Black Thought is a very underrated MC. I like him a lot-especially his dynamic with Malik B in their earlier albums (Illadelph Halflife and Do You Want More?!!!??!)

I saw them live at First Avenue (a club here in Minneapolis.) I also saw my Teaching Assistant there.)

I agree with most of your list, but i would have

Big L, good lyrics and flow, I think hes very underrated, too bad he was shot dead

Common Sense, good lyrics and meaningful songs

Immortal Technique, strong lyrics, just a lil too political...

    somewhere in my top 10.

Big L is from New York right? I've got a few tracks; it sucks that he was killed I heard he was going to blow up pretty big. (someone even threw around the next NaS.)

Yup, from NYC, could have seen him becoming even bigger than Nas. ( i dont like Nas for some reason though hes a good lyricist ) But it seems good rappers are prone to getting shot dead...

That's cool. How's the local underground hip hop scene in NYC? Is the rivalry pretty intense with LA or has that cooled off?

I was tempted to put up some Vanilla Ice, or failing that, GLC.

Luckily, common sense intervened, and inspired me to link up this gem of early 80's rap:

I dont think hes rubbish...to clarify I think Tupac was a mediocre rapper with above average lyrical content.

I just think every rapper on my list could rap circles around Tupac, and tupac cant flow at all so he doesnt deserve a spot on my list.

Listen to Notorious Thugz and then Thug Luv back to back, its obvious that Biggie > Tupac

Hey Pra you hear about this?

    Del Coming In '08
Funkee Homosapien returns with yet another blast of goodness.
    by IGN Music

November 5, 2007 - Del The Funky Homosapien is returning to the rap game with a brand spanking new album on February 26th, 2008.

Entitled The 11th Hour, it will be released on Definitive Jux. This will be his first solo effort since 2000's Both Sides Of The Brain, which was released on Heiro Imperium, the label he founded with other members of the Heiroglyphics crew.

"I look at this as an opportunity to spread the gospel a little thicker," Del says of his move to Def Jux. "El-P and I have known each other for a long time and I respect what he does. I see Def Jux out there doing their thing, I think we can help each other build new audiences. I'm looking forward to working with El-P and Def Jux on future projects as well."

I didn't know about it. I hope it's good, but I hope it doesn't get too preachy. Last few times I've seen Del he's been gettin' a little too much preachy about how he's spittin' real **** while everyone else is wack.

Del's always good in my book on lyrical content and flow however.

No Pharoahe Monch? I actually like the list otherwise, but I'd have rated Biggie higher than Jay Z.
