Default AI Generals/Family Members Magically Appear

In my games, I tend to use a lot of assassins. Believe me, this makes expansion much easier when you first take out their generals, then their spies and assassins, then their priests/imams, plus killing unwanted heretics (I don't like to use my own priests, because they turn to heretics too much).

Anyways, in my routine of killing family members, I've noticed that I will often kill a general or heir at the head of an army one turn, only to have another one show up at the head of the army the next turn. The army didn't move, and there didn't appear to be any other armies or troops around. This has happened multiple times with multiple factions in multiple games and mods. It also happens with settlements.

So, my question is, does the AI "cheat" by granting itself generals and family members when you kill too many, or am I imagining things?

I have noticed this too...and this is annoying, because you cannot defeat a faction this way

Adoption. I always assumed the AI had the ability to adopt any Captain they want if they need to.

If you want to wipe out a faction using assassins then you need to do it all in one turn.

While that is sometimes true it is not always the case. On at least two occasions that I remember I have assassinated a faction thinking there must be an heir somewhere but there was not. Doesn't happen often but it does happen.

I eliminated the French and Scots once (playing English) by assasinating the leader and heir in one turn.

Did you play lottery after that? If you didn't you missed a big chance to become millionaire

I believe they can recruit captains as Generals. But they will not be family members for that matter of course.

I agree that the AI recruits generals but i'm certain that they are family members. Before it occured to me that they adopt, I used to think the AI must have such sexual prowess that a new family member sprouted up at every turn, at every corner of the globe. But adoption is so much more plausbile. When you look at stats the AI generals are always family members.

They can adopt generals without the man of the hour stuff, or the popups at the start of each turn, that the player needs to adopt.

They appear to only do it on the higher difficulty levels.

M2TW probably acts like the other TW games. If the number of family members is small compared to the number of settlements the game will generate 'man of the hour' events for the player. There is no reason to assume that this won't happen for the AI.

I've also taken out factions with several settlements left by killing off the last family members (usually in battle though).
