what to do..
Lately I find myself unable to start a new campaign since I have heard about some good fixes coming up in the patch for several factions, I rather play with those when the patch is out.
I think I might need a little break from the total war idea, and perhaps a more traditional medieval or earlier period strategy game would be a nice chance of pace. Sadly I would not know of a recently released game like that, most seem to go for fantasy. Any suggestions?
I know this may not have too much to do with stainless steel but I am sure that others here wait for the patch too and want to stay in the medieval enviroment while waiting. It can inspire new ideas even.

Europa Universalis! Starts in the 15th century though...
Great game, ugly but verry historic and strategic.

Re: what to do..
You can always try CIV IV. There is a Charlemagne era scenario on the new expansion.

Re: what to do..
thanks for the link, the game seems too abstract for me though. I like to see my little soldiers. With more traditional I meant the simple gathering of a few resources, building your city and upgrading armies and such. I like many different approaches considering this though. I dont like Age of Empires 3 though, they spread the timespan out too far and the units just dont always match on the map. They also ignored all that happened in Europe.

Re: what to do..
I have that one, played it a while and I really like the idea of starting in the stone age and ending in the future, but the scaling was terrible with heroes being too big and vehicles being too small. The transport helicopter was smaller than the soldiers I was supposed to put in it.
Most buildings where the same for all culture groups as well and in the modern age and future all buildings and most units become exactly the same as well.
I am looking forward to Empire Earth 3 though.

Re: what to do..
I was thinking a bit more recent than Age of Empires 2. I lost my faith in ensemble studios with age of empires 3, they ignored all the things that happened in europe which I found far more interesting than america, and they also made it seem as if the indians are the friends of the settlers. I am sure that european powers fought there, but the wars fought in america between europeans are nothing in comparisson to what happened in europe, where they fought in their own countries instead of some far away place.
