No sound in M2TW or RTW

I posted this in the RTW help forum, but since there is no one in there now a days, I'll post my issue here

Recently, I seemed to have lost sound in RTW and M2TW no matter what mods I use. I mean I have no sound. No music, no sound effects, nothing. This happens if I use my speakers or headphones.

I know its not my speakers because I can still play sounds from music (on pandora radio anyway) and from Youtube.

Any idea whats going on?

A fresh re-install did not help things with RTW, I'll try with M2TW. Can anyone help, or not?

Simple question, do you get sound in any other games?

"Start==>execute"

Type "dxdiag" in the box.

Go to the thumb "sound"

click on "test directsound"

If it works, it is a problem with the game. If not, try to change the hardware acceleration in the left of the button, and try again untill it works. If it never works, try to re-install your sound drivers and directX.

A few questions :

What is the version of your windows ?

What is the version of your directX ?

What is your soundcard ?

I have windows vista, dx 10, and Creative SB Audigy 2 soundcard. (think thats the soundcard )

Went to dxdiag but there's no test option for either sound or display. Infact the only button I have is save all info, next page, help, and exit.

EDIT

I also get no sound in Mount and Blade, which is the only other game I have installed.

Ok it looks like a DirectX problem...

Here is what it should looks like :



If you do not have the thumbs "system" "display" "sound" and "input" (follow the red arrows ), your directX must be re-installed... It should fix the problem

If it persist, maybe try to download again directX 10 !

My direct X looks a bit different than that. Heres the sound page.



Its kind of strange that its saying my Direct X is 10, because my video card wasn't built for direct x 10.

I have in ATI Radeon x1600, atleast I don't think thats made for Direct X 10.

Actualy, DirectX 10 comes with windows Vista.

I have windows XP with directX 9.0 and there I can make sounds tests.

Maybe it is not on vista, or not on dxdiag with directX 10... (If someone with vista could check)

Maybe your soundcard is not able to support directX 10 too.

Maybe you could try to install directX 9.0 for vista (if exist...)

Because if you have sounds everywhere but in games, the problem should be directX...

I have vista and the same dxdiag, with no ability to make tests. There is also no DX9 for vista.

The only thing I can think of is reinstall drivers, as the ones you currently have haven't been tested by microsoft.

Are the drivers for vista or XP ? Dick is right : your drivers have no digital signature (witch does not mean anything but that's not the point )... Maybe they are not compatible with directX 10 ?

Are you running a 64bit version of vista? Unsigned drivers will not work if that is the case, although if this was the case they shouldn't have been allowed to install in the first place.
