    Default Dealing with Poland/Mongols

Hello Everyone, after writing a block of information detailing of why I need help with some rather Nasty polish Nobles and Some very evil Mongols, it signed me out, well, here goes nothing, again.

I have some very serious problems here

    PROBLEM (A)

I am close to bankrupt fielding only 13 units of light/med cav, Boyar Sons and the like.

    PROBLEM (B)

Poland is the big hungry wolf asking my Faction Leader to "little pig, little pig, let me in, let me in". After refusing countless times to become a Polish Vassel, he has decided to blow my house down with a few very well equipped POLISH NOBLES. Sorry, more like a few hundred POLISH NOBLES. Sieging me countless times yet as I refuse and generally being very rude and punching me steadily in the face.

    PROBLEM (C)

One of my squeamish govenors who is afraid of blood, was exploring east Russia, setting up some very nice watchtowers, and came across a very big amount of mongols. marching steadily for Moscow and that little fort under Moscow. It is indeed a full stack of 10 bloody command star mongols who will tear out Mr Miroslavs throat, Update, two mongol stacks, one hiding in the bushes. BEHIND HIM I have four cities and three forts churning out defenders and Boyar calvary. As best that I can afford.

As you can see these are my problems, I am in quite the predicament because as far as I can see into eastern europe, POLAND occupy it.

    The effort so far.

    Poland = Big Hungry Wolf
Mongols= Another Bigger More Hungry Wolf
ME (russia) = year supply of wolf food.

I have attempted to keep the possibility to abandon Novgorod and all that jazz behind and move to denmark to rebuild, move to the British Isles and then continue from there, but
I am not terribly fussed on running away.

I have churned up a number of ideas systematically and rejected them as odure. including raid trains on the mongals, turks as this leaves me open to either side.

I am not a particularly good commander although I will not leave this dumb AI and it's number crunching battle simulation to make me lose again and again. For example, one time I wish to skip this band of 150 rebels. Who killed at least half my own troops and two family members! Before disappearing from the map entirely.

Without some information from the Highly Experienced Ones who reside in the forum, I believe I am in a rock scissors paper game with the mongols and the Poles. I apologise for the wall of text but I am trying to give those, who may be willing to help me, as much information as they can. Possibly relate to some tactic which may help me when on average the Poles outnumber my forces 1:2 at least.

I apologise for any unclear meanings and mispellings, if you address the matter I will correct it, thank you.

Your problem is that the Poles are still alive by the time the Mongols spawn. You should have killed them first instead of expanding east. I have found the best strategy as Russia is to press into Europe rather than go east. This leaves a lot of the poor areas to sit and rot under Rebel control whilst you take the rich lands of Northern Germany & Poland.

Thanks for the tips Ryoken, much appreciated, and next time I'll wipe out the Polish pretty early because of this headache they've caused. going for another blast at Russia. Thanks ~ Narik

First of all you should have accepted the vassel request and asked for serious money in return. You could then build under the Polish umbrella only to betray them when you are ready.

Second I agree with the others post you need to move West. Move into places with a stronger economy and restart your war machine.

Third fighting the Mongols in the open is tough. Im by no means a good player by comparison to others here but I find I can only defeat the Mongols in a bottleneck situation. (Them seiging or river crossing)

    Good luck.

Well you're probably going to get raped and pillaged by the Mongols but see how things go and whether you can hold out. They don't last forever, and anyway it makes for an interesting campaign. I have yet to play Russia so I don't have much to offer.

Okay, the progress so far is that I have expanded due west, exported everything to stockholm and attempting to conquor the british isles. I'm dying slowly in Russia, only Novgorod and Moscow remain under my control with hefty garrisons of Boyar Sons. although rapidly thinning. Upkeep is obsolutely horrendous and I just may have to...restart. Mongols have landed a few stacks of armies, managed to beat a minor force of about 600 or so with very few casualties. Other than that, suffering hefty losses every turn yeah. bridges, forts and cities is really the only time to defend. On open ground they just mass charge me odds are usually about 1 to 32 or something ridiculous.
To address the vassalship issue. I previously thought that if I accepted, myself and my huge family tree would get "teh boot" out. I must say it has been one of my more exciting games. Learned quite a bit however I cannot make an army to save my life, mass infantry, useless for distance, cavalry, countered by stacks of heavy cav. Archers get run down, so on and so forth. from RTW to M2TW. I would think there is a steep learning curve as I am pretty much dying...on medium/medium. Wish me the best guys, really quality advice. No shame in starting over now that you've got an idea of what you're gunna do, and what is gunna happen when you get there.

Playing the Russians, you have to be very aggresive in the beginning or its over.

First take Riga and build that city and Novgorod into cash cows.
Send a second army to take Helsinki castle (within 3 turns you should attack Helsinki castle). Then send that army (should be your best troops) with a ship to Stockholm. You have to be fast and beat the Danes to the city.

Stockholm is 1 major cash cow. Once you got those 4 provinces you can relax abit and build up Helsinki castle until you get your better troops.

Reminder Poland will attack, so prepare and build at least 1 decent fleet so you control the sea. Later push against Poland and wipe them out. By taking Thorn castle ith will cripple their troops buildup for a while.

Good luck, I love playing the Russian they got awesome troops.

Yeah, I've found Stockholm is a huge "cash cow" once you get it up and running. The game is progressing nice and slowly, few territories taken, down to Krakow. HRE is banging on my gates, taken a few cities from them, eg Hamburg deep in territory, but a full stack army landed just south of Riga from nowhere, with a crummy little family member of 21 in the siege of riga I sallyed and killed their General. Hahaha. Not much going on except for...Some idiot hungarian diplomat has been standing beside one of my castles, beating it to death every turn with a piece of paper. It annoys me, that he doesnt even offer anything, just takes ten minutes of my time to attack me with a piece of paper...before its turn ends. Does anyone know what this fool is doing? Much thanks for the great advice. ~ Narik

Try and build up you citys until you ca build those heavy infantry called Beardich Axemen.

Those units are just awesome against cavalary. The drawback of a russian campaign is the huge distances you have to cover. If you have to fight the mongols let them siege your city and fight them inside the city square, with your Beardick Axemen and some Missile units. Make sure you dont use all your troop when fighting the Mongols, keep some in reserve.

Push hard to wipe out Poland then go against Hungary. After that build up for the nasty Mongol invasion. Most of all have fun.

Whenever I play a campaign I never go back to a previous saved game, if it happens it happens, its fun and more realistic that way.
