    This book states that many Japanese crewmen and officers who were responsible for some of the most heinous acts of WWII are still alive - and unpunished.

    What say you?

    No, it's just an eyesore, and would not be surprising if it exaggerates dishonestly here and there.


    But this is old news. Nazi war criminals have been alive all the way up till now, and they got the official end of it. We haven't punished the Japanese much, so it's not such a stretch at all.

    No suprise there. The Allies persecuted the Nazi's so much because they wanted to break the German Spirit.

    The United States already accomplished that by dropping two Nuclear Weapons on Japan..

    I think the Jewish lobbying for persecution of Nazis is the main reason they were punished so extensively. The citizens of China on the other hand are not known to complain so openly, though I'm sure if their country at the time was freer they would have done so just like the Jews.

    I say we let them alone by this point, the war's been over for 62 years and anybody who was even in a remotely senior position is by now dead.

    And if not dead, so aged and helpless that it'll seem a total farce to try men who would require help just to take the stand.

    The mail has a habit of sensationalised right-wing journalism. At best it's exaggerated, at worst it's made up

    Still, the fact remains that they went after those who did those terrible crimes. Why don't we do it as well? This isn't like starting another war or anything.

    I may be wrong in this so please enlighten me if so.

    Some of this is partly due to the negotiations for peace to end the war with Japan. Along with the Japanese Emperor being able to not go through a war crimes court and to hold his position were other acts like American soldiers having to salute Japanese officers. Of course they didn't want to but, as to get the unconditional peace they wanted, some American peace articles had to go by the way side. Thus is the chaos of war.

    I am guessing that alongside the Emperor some other high officials had to be given freedom too. Makes no sense to us now but if you were there at the time you would probably want peace whatever the cost as to lose more men in fighting or kill more Japanese civilians with A-bombs.

    The Emperor wanted to offer himself up, but people said no.

    It just seems pointless to go after the grunts.
    If we went after all the accomplices, we'd have to hang half of Germany in 1946.
