Corrupted Save Games

Lo all.

Right. After spending an entire weekend playing as Carthage, and finally getting somewhere, my save games corrupt. All 3 of them.

The Autosave
The Quicksave
The Actual Save Game.

Have tried reinstalling the game but it makes no difference at all.
Does anyone have any clues why this could have happened? Have any bugs been reported about the use of Carthaginians? Maybe something to do with destroying the Roman Factions?

Sorry to hear that. I hate losing any progress in a game. But a whole weekend? Aacckkk!!

I do not know the answer to your question, except to say that I have played as Carthage and many other factions, without this ever happening to me. I play 1.5 vanilla RTW.

I do have a suggestion to keep this from happening again: Make 9 or so save games, labeled, say Carthage1, Carthage2, Carthage3, etc. Save to Carthage1 on the first turn, Carthage2 on the next turn, etc., until you have saved to Carthage9 on the ninth turn. On the tenth turn, save to Carthage1 again (this overwrites your first turn, now making it your tenth turn). Continue on, saving to Carthage2 and etc. on succeeding turns. THis will ensure that you always have at least 10 games saved (including your autosave). Unless something extremely wierd is up with your system (like a worm) then you will never lose more than 1 turn of play.

I use a slight variation on this, saving as shown above, about every 10 minutes, and saving to a year/season name every turn or so (e.g. Julii_VHVH_203S). This allows me to go back to any point in a turn, or go back to see what happened many turns ago.

Your advice is well received. I will try that idea once I get everything reinstalled. My PC seems to be very unhappy with Rome Total War, crashing every time I reinstall the game.

Hmmm... There might be a silver lining in here somewhere: If the problem is with RTW, then it could be that your save games are O.K.

I restarted as Carthage instead, and downloaded the "bug fixer" download. I think it might have been something to do with "Carthaginian Glass" being invented or something like that.

I had kind of the same problem yesterday i spent a day playing as the House of Julii and captured 17 regions and today i tried to load it but it just went back to the main menu. I dont think it has anything to do with things being invented or destroying factions because yesterday i loaded the game about four times its just today its stuffed up. I am going to try and see if i can fix it if i do ill let you know.

Well i just loaded my game i tried to load it like 10 times and it worked although it probably was not a corrupt save just a glitch or something. You should try it anyway and sorry if it doesnt work.
