Elizabeth the Golden Age

Anyone seen it yet? I couldn't find another thread on this so will assume there isn't one. I really enjoyed the first movie in 1998 and am really looking forward to this one. They really developed the Walsingham character under Geoffrey Rush (what a wonderful actor) and he stole the show for me in the first movie. The first movie covered her esrlier reign and this covers the latter part including the Spanish Armada with Clive Owen playing Raleigh.

I'll be going to see it tonight...

I dunno if I should, it seems Cate Blanchett's acting is the only thing that can pull it off. I can't see a good cgi Armada battle and Clive Owen is annoying and can't pull off 16th century megahunk.

Well I loved the first movie so am hopeful they can pull it off. I quite like Owen but his monotone voice is annoying and am a little unsure how he'll do in this role especially with such good actors as Blanchett and Rush around so we'll see.

I like what I saw in the trailer.

Well if its involves Queen Elisabeth fighting like it looks like in the trailer when she is in her armor count me out.

I thought it was very good. Not quite as good as the first movie which had more politics and intrigue in it but still a good movie. The Armada was covered well and the ships looked great! Wasn't too keen on the inclusion of Raleigh as a major character though. He was a favourite of Elizabeth but there's no proof of any romantic relationship and his character was more annoying than anything else. Rush was still great as Walsingham although his character wasn's as involved as in the earlier movie.

As for the scene with her armour that was just a bit of creative impressionism. We know she visited her troops prior to the invasion and to be honest I wouldn't have put it past a monarch like her to do such a thing. Obviously she wasn't part of any battle.
