Anyone know how to add the old formations back to RTR PE (like the single line, double line, column, ect..)? I preferred those ones much more to the new ones, few of which make any sense to me.

Also, is there a bug with phalanx units in RTR PE 1.9? Everytime I send multiple phalanx units through a gate, they lose cohesion and turn into one jumbling mass. That is not exactly good when you are trying to fight your way into a city. And even in open battles, phalanxes will lose cohesion (with guard mode on).

And, playing as Bactria, I have not encountered any income from the silk roads. Is there some tech tree I am not following or are the silk roads just not in the game at all. I saw a caravan structure in an Armenian city. I have conquered all of Selecuia's Iranian possessions (Alexandria and just about all of the cities east of Seleucia). Why havent I seen any income from this historically significant trade route?

Sorry for the many questions. Last time I played RTR was when 6.0 had just come out, so I am a little out of the loop.

Whats up? Used to be that you'd get replies within an hour of posting.

Well I guess Ill put one more out there? Anyone know of any good threads on squalor? I have been having some problems. It seems whenever I build more health buildings (ie sewers and baths) I temporarily negate the rising squalor, but those health buildings also increase my population which inevitably leads to a rising squalor level. Short of exterminating my cities or having them rebel and then retaking them, how can I stop the rising squalor levels?

You want to revert back to the formations from vanilla RTW or? The formations are in these two files:
    descr_formations
    descr_formations_ai
But I don`t advice you simple replace the ones in RTRPE with the ones in RTW because, as you know, some factions have been changed in RTRPE making the vanilla ai formations absolete. You`d need to edit them a bit. But maybe you can try Sinuhet`s ai formations. Check the pinned thread for modifications above. Afaik, Sinuhet`s formations are also part of the optional add-ons pack for the simple version of RTRPE. As for the player formations you can try Marcus Camilus`s. They are in the sub-forum for modifications right above.

The phalanx in RTW v1.5 on which RTRPE is based is a bit bugged. The fact that they lose formation and you see men wondering around pointlesly happens especially when they fight other phalanx units, but can happen otherwise too.

You can`t build silk roads with Bactria because the building doesn`t have that ownership in EDB. It only has eastern culture and parthia. And bactria(thrace in game files) is of greek culture. That`s the technicall explanation. I don`t know why the decission to restrict it to armenia, pontus and parthia was taken.
I very much doubt anyone can remember why it was decided to be like this since RTRPE hasn`t change anything of this sort. It`s most likely like that since RTR 6 Gold was out if not earlier.

EDIT: I forgot... the building should give a bonus to trade income( trade_base_income_bonus bonus 2). At least it is set up like this in teh text files. I haven`t checked to see if it actually happens, but unless the feature is bugged in RTW it should be there.

I don't know what the Silk Road you are talking about is and I don't know how to get the old formations back. But the problem with the phalanx formation you mention is very common. I believe it is mentioned in one of the Stickies or FAQ's about changes brought by PE 1.9. It is some kind of bug and it says that you should press return once you engage the enemy with a phalanx unit to prevent the unit from dispersing.
