Default A question for RTR fans

Like many of you, I'm posting here until our forum comes back up. While I love RTR, I also play MTW:II. I would like recommendations from RTR fans as to what mod they recommend for MTW:II and why (also, which mod they think is closest to RTR in realism). Thanks.

Default Re: A question for RTR fans

Well, I'm a Rome man too and I've always had problems with Med2 keeping my attention for more than a couple of weeks at a time. Not because it's a bad game but because the period doesn't fire my imagination in the same way that the Classical or Napoleonic do.

Having said that, I have had some enjoyable campaigns using both vanilla and some of the mods and two I have particularly enjoyed playing are PDER and LTC.

    PDER

I like PDER for a number of reasons, including: the scale of the campaign (900 turns); the map (lots more provinces and a bigger one in the pipeline); the new and revised factions (Byzantium's line up rocks!); the AoR system; and not forgetting that its designer, Socal_Infidel, is a really nice guy.

I'm particularly impressed with the AoR system as it gives me a feel of my all time favourite Rome mods, RTR, especially when I play the Basileia ton Rhomaion (I hope I spelled that right ). I'm also particularly impressed in that it's largely a one man show, although there are a couple of talented fans of the mod who do chip in and help out. I'm looking forward to the next release, which will have a bigger map and even more new factions.

    LTC

The thing I like about this mod is what it's not. It's not a radical workover! It's changes are subtle but telling. Playing LTC is like playing a buffed up version of vanilla with Kingdoms and another free expansion (Lusted's mini campaigns) thrown in for good measure. I also gather that the next release will split the Grand Campaign into three, making a total of 10 campaign options. How about that for variety?

I usually only play Byzantium with Med2 but it surprises me to have to confess that I really enjoy playing as France with LTC.

And again it's worth pointing out that it's mostly a one man affair, with some notable talented input.

Frankly, if you like RTR you've got to give PDER a shot. I think you'll enjoy it.
