Default Elephants and Siege E. wages

Hi ppl, i was want to make a comment about the wages for the elephant units and siege equipment.

Since 0.81 i played like 2 big campaigns and a lot of small ones, right now im in 240 playing cartage and in all those campaigns i never seen the AI or myself recruiting any of these units because their upkeep is so high that they are just not worth it.

Now i modded my export_descr_unit file to lower the upkeep of those units to half the original amount, elephants are about 1500 average of upkeep.
They are still expensive to maintain but at least now i can use them i never seen the AI use any of those units still but i hope i can fight agaisnt them someday.

Just curious about how the team reached an agreement on those values for upkeep, what do you think about my changes?

A big THANK YOU to the team for the perfect mod.

Hey would you mind explaining how you lowered the upkeep? I‘d like to lower it for Carthaginian ships and all elephants and ballista’s mostly for the same reasons but I am having trouble finding the file that I need to change.

What in this specifically do I need to change to lower the upkeep of Carthaginian naval units?

The bold part is the upkeep per turn. 10000 is the recruitment cost. to make the upkeep 1000/turn change the 3600 to 1000.

Yeah, the upkeep is very high. I don't think an elephant and it's crew would cost as much to mantain as 150 Libyan Spearmen.

How much does a spearman cost? Every farmer has a spear in their hut and they probably didn't receive any training.

In the end it's about balance though.

Playing as carthage in 240 there should be no problem having an elephant unit if you have developed your cities correctly. At that time I had 2 elephant units, a pentereis and some pentekonterai. Which ads up to a massive upkeep, but carthage is filthy rich (I think carthage itself takes in 2-3000 a year from trading). I had only conquered someprovinces in north africa, and actually lost corsica by that time, so it wasn't conquest that allowed me to have such units.
The problem with elephants is that even though they only have 2 hit points you can easily win the battle with them. After the lines have engaged you just have to make sure that there are no free enemy missile units that can pepper your elephants, and then send your elephants charging from the flank through the enemies all across your line. Then the battle is more or less won.

The real questionhere is if the upkeep of the unit reflects its worthiness?

Yeah the elephants are cool but last time they carged a phalanx from behind i lost 5 elephants bugger....
Even though thats not even my problem, my real problem is that i never see those units in the battlefield.... i feel like i have a toy that never plays vs me or by me

And yeah those siege engines are much less usefull then a unit of elephants even though the costs are identical, at least the stone ones. the ballistas are cool i like them.
