Greetings Multiplayers!
Since no one has already started this in the Kingdoms sub forum I thought it might be nice for those of you who play online to get ideas for strats or simply to show off Kingdoms in multi play action!
Now for the report I wanted to try something different than usual. A Flank Rush. Alright I know some of you are yelling Boooo! But hear me out first! In this battle I will highlight mistakes made in both my execution of the flank maneuvers as well as my opponents missteps. * Note as I did not consult with my opponent first I have edited out their name from the screen shots where it appears.
My formation consisted of the column preset group. This was my first mistake as I did not adjust my infantry to be at the fore front of the starting line along side my cavalry. What this means is now my infantry which is much slower will have to march all the farther to assist in the flank move here's the set up:
Next, the cavalry race ahead to exploit the flank. This is however in tactical terms another poor move on my part as now my horsemen are totally separated from the body of reserve infantry which will take time to catch up. It's particularly bad in this case because my cavalry is mixed between lancers and archers not a force to overrun the enemy with.
However my opponent is surprised my my deployment and panics. His army does not make use of good order when realigning. If he had I would have surely been in trouble facing a frontal attack. After over running a group of archers I was uncertain as his staff milita advanced.
Fortunately for me, I was able to concentrate my horsemen on the slow to organize staff militia and overrun them as well.
This caused however a charge of the enemy chivalric knights whether this was out of my opponent's control or not I cannot say for certain, but the knights were close enough and lead a charge to defend their routing infantry.
As you can see above the knights too could not hold off my onslaught, but things were about to change as I found my horsemen wide open to a flank by another band of knights from the left below.
Now things were really beginning to heat up as my cavalry found themselves tied up between mounted knights on one side and axe wielding huscarls on the other!
At this point my general's bodyguard join the fray to support the horsemen.
This could have been a precarious situation however the entire time my reserve of Trebizond archers where raining down hell from above at the far right flank.
Now just in the nick of time the heavy infantry arrive!
Out of the blue I noticed a problem and order the peasantry in to protect the left flank. These poor villagers make a noble stand and buy my general some time to pull back.
Elsewhere on the field I had carefully order a battalion of Varangian guard to follow and intercept a band of mounted knights dead-set on out flanking me from the right.
While the charge of the knights did not go unfelt, they could not stand in melee and were eventually turned and routed.
At this point I was in control of the field, while both of us made equal mistakes luck would be on my side this day as my horsemen now went gathering prisoners from the few remaining enemy that stood their ground.
Another hard fought match, I'm sure both of us have learned from and hopefully some of you out there!
